M. Knight Shyamalan, who has directed many classic thrillers, including The Sixth Sense, Undead, and Omen, released Split in 2016, about a man with 24 split personalities Kevin, a series of horror stories after the kidnapping of 3 teenage girls.

"Split" has a lot of highlights, and the end of the film even linked "Undead" for a time, combining the time and space backgrounds of the two films into one. Why do you want to do this? About the movie "Mr. Glass", there are some amazing little secrets that I want to share with you.

You are only one official number away from the movie: Movie Freshness

M. Knight Shyamalan is a comic book fan. He has liked watching superhero movies since he was a child. His "Undead" focuses on "superheroes". He truly analyzes that if "superheroes" are just a desolate blue-collar class, there is absolutely no The opportunity to save the world, what would that look like?

Shyamalan originally wanted to make a sequel right away, but because the cost was as high as $75 million, the global box office only sold $248 million, and the filmmaker Disney only made a small profit and did not plan to continue investing.

It was not until the debut of "Split" in 2016 that it was announced at the end that the film was actually a sequel to "Undead", which made people feel surprised. The global box office of "Split", which cost only 9 million US dollars, also announced that it will be re-shot. The next episode is "Mr. Glass".

After filming "Undead", "Split" and "Mr. Glass" in succession, Shyamalan has completely created a "mediocre and helpless world of superheroes". Is he still willing to develop other superheroes?

In an interview with "Digital Spy", Shyamalan gave a negative answer: "No, I will not relive the past, this should not be an expectation between me and the fans, I hope they can continue in the future. Steady on seeing a good thriller, so I won't do it any more."

Shyamalan said frankly that "Mr. Glass" was a film he had been waiting for for 19 years. At the beginning, the concept was very complicated. The original film length was 3 hours and 20 minutes. Finally, he decided to give up the film and cut it, only to determine the film length of 2 hours and 12 minutes.

Please call us "cheap Avengers"

In an interview, Shyamalan revealed that he likes the Marvel movies of the "Avengers" series very much, but for him, he hopes to achieve the same entertainment effect in a cheaper way. He filmed "Mr. Glass", The film brings together the three protagonists of his past films, each with extraordinary abilities. For him, this is his own "Avengers".

Shyamalan: "This Avengers is relatively cheap, but I can give the same good quality. I can get $20 million, $200 million or $250 million."

Samuel L. Jackson predicted he would join S.H.I.E.L.D.

The story goes back to 2000, and there is a scene in "Undead" where David (Bruce Willis) goes to visit Elijah (Samuel L. Jackson), who is looking up at the cartoon on the wall, one of the scenes He was watching S.H.I.E.L.D.

Not long after, the Marvel movie announced the official start of filming, starting with "Iron Man". I didn't expect Samuel L. Jackson to be invited to play "S.H.I.E.L.D. Director" Nick Fury. part of foreknowledge.

James McAvoy, Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis and other three big stars collaborated on the same stage for the first time. They have heard each other's names for a long time and admired each other. James McAvoy even praised them. Bruce Willis: "He's the coolest partner I've ever seen. Even if his role is a little heavy, he can be interpreted in a light-hearted way to make people move."

As for Samuel Jackson, he especially admired James McAvoy as a junior, and was especially amazed at his interpretation of 24 personalities in one breath: "Although I am often very proud that I can play a breakthrough role, But when I see an actor who can continue to switch identities in front of me and interact with the people next to me, it’s really amazing.”

Bruce Willis especially thanked director M. Knight Shyamalan, who was stereotyped as an action movie actor because of the "Die Hard" series, "Doomsday" and other blockbuster films, and thanked Shyamalan for his unique vision for inviting him The performance of "The Sixth Sense" and "Undead" allowed him to officially transform into an acting actor. "Shamalan asked me to act in a new film. I didn't even read the script, so I took on this task."

"Kevin" appeared in "Undead Robbery" early?

James McAvoy's Kevin in "Split" has 24 split personalities, and Shyamalan once said that he wanted to hint at the role as early as "Undead". The question is, does he have this role in the end?

There was a scene in "The Undead" where David, who could hear other people's inner secrets, was running around. In one of them, he passed by a pair of mother and son, and heard the little boy keep crying, just because he was abused by his mother. Many fans believe that this little boy is Kevin, so when he grows up, his mind will be distorted, so that he has 24 personalities, and the most terrifying personality "Beast" is born. But Shyamalan never confirmed this.

David in "Undead" is afraid of water, and had drowning experience when he was a child, but he also fought off the perverted thugs in the environment of heavy rain and made himself a hero. Kevin of "Split" is afraid of flashes, which will fully reveal the most vulnerable personalities.

In many superhero comics, almost every hero has weaknesses. Superman is afraid of kryptonite and Batman also has the obsession of "not killing", which makes them always controlled by their own villains, and whether these weaknesses will be left and right The key to the movie?

Having said so much, do you feel incredible about the layout of the horror master M. Knight Shyamalan? Before going to the theater to watch the finale of "Mr. Glass" this time, it is strongly recommended to make up "Split" and "Undead", so that your movie will look better when you find easter eggs!

If Shyamalan can make interesting superhero themes in the follow-up... then this is really a very interesting trilogy of superhero/villain origins (however, I feel that the follow-up may be more suitable for series).

The thriller universe directed by Shyamalan, with classic characters and stories spanning more than ten years, may be expected to be a little high, and a little disappointed. The whole thing is okay, the action scenes and the horror reversals are all there, but it's not as amazing as before. Yimei is still a split-like high-difficulty wonderful performance, great! The climax drama that has been paved for a long time is still not exciting enough, and the ending is a bit...what...? PS The IMAX attendance rate for the first weekend of its release in Sydney, Australia, was average.

Glass quotes

  • Dr. Ellie Staple: [to her three patients] I understand that the three of you think you are superhuman. That you don't think you are normal. You've convinced yourselves you have extraordinary gifts, like something out of a comic book. I am here to discuss the possibility that you are mistaken.

  • Dr. Ellie Staple: [as they begin the procedure] Good luck, Elijah. Nothing essential is going to change about who you are. I promise, my friend...
