To be honest, this movie really didn’t impress me. Although the story itself is very moving and twists and turns enough to create a lot of memory points, the script is a bit bland and can be said to be tasteless. A pity movie.
In terms of the script, there is actually not much wrong, it is a very smooth movie, there is nothing too abrupt or depressing , but because it is too smooth to arouse too many sparks, I don't have much emotion. After watching this film; in short, it is neither good nor bad, neither will it feel like a waste of time nor will it feel like I found a treasure. But seriously, I can't find anything wrong or any way to make this story more engaging, but I think at least the first half of the story, little Saroo's performance is amazing and I love it , is the most charismatic actor in the film.
The story starts from a slum in India, and the first half focuses on describing the emotions and ties of Saroo and his brother Guddu, as well as the entire process of accidentally leaving home thousands of miles away.
I think this part is very attractive, and the emotional expression is also very good, so that the audience can also feel the tenacity of the brothers and the panic of being lost. In addition, because the story takes place in India, it also adds some mysterious The color makes me very curious about the next story.
However, at the beginning of the middle section, the time and space of the story switched to Saroo's adoptive family in Australia. The overall pace became slow and a bit lengthy. The director chose not to tell the hometown journey with the popular bloody plot, but instead focused on the character's psychology. Status and self-identity , but a certain part of the story suddenly focuses on the love story of the hero and heroine, making the main axis of the story blurred.
In the second half of the journey to find a hometown, although I understand the urgency of the protagonist, but I can't feel the emotional fluctuations, which is probably why I don't like this movie so much.
For me, this kind of story should actually be watched with excitement, but after watching the whole film, I only felt it in the first half of the film, and the performance of Dev Patel in the middle and latter parts made my original excitement become. It's very calm, as if watching a story that has nothing to do with me, but this should be the director's intention. He hopes to focus more on the psychological process of the character, rather than the formal journey to find his mother.
Although this method is not very popular in my heart, there must be audiences who are curious about the growth process of such children; however, I will mention Dev Patel's performance in particular because at the end, the director has put a real-life film , that is the only place in the whole film that made me cry, so I felt that it was not that the story did not attract me, but that the actors did not really convey such excitement.
I fully understand that such a performance is difficult, because on the surface it has to take into account the mood of the adoptive parents and show no concern, but the ups and downs in the heart are very violent; , The expression of fate when adopting, that kind of sincere look, I was indeed easily bribed!
