First of all, let's talk about Oren Peil's debut film. Since it's a first-time director, I think it's better to keep a low profile. The publicity of this film is very strong. After watching the trailer, you basically don't need to watch the whole movie. The script is actually quite bland, and the DV format saves the film, it's not too boring, at least it feels very real.
One more point, the pre-production of "Ghost Records" is a bit lengthy. First, there are footsteps in several nights, the door slams, and the heroine has nightmares. Most of it is the hero and heroine arguing about whether to stay in this house, or whether the heroine should face each other. The grumpy male protagonist yelled "Take off your camera!" I looked at it and wondered if it was a horror movie or a family ethics drama? Although it is in the form of a documentary, this type of film that needs box office also needs conflicts and conflicts that can attract audiences, and the plot is ups and downs - at least the conflicts of horror films cannot be limited to the quarrel between the hero and heroine. Many people compare it to "Blair Witch", and I think the plot and script are still far from bad.
This has to say whether it is a director shortage or a script shortage now. In fact, I don't have much disgust with Paranormal Activity. I can only say that it is ok. After all, after entering the film, I feel that the atmosphere created is very reasonable, and the sense of terrifying reality is also in place. The problem is that I really disagree with the director's shooting method. The pseudo-documentary is for real feelings. However, Oren makes people feel a little artificial in the process of striving for authenticity. After all, it is too real to be a documentary. "Word. What is real life? It's trivial, it's a little contradiction, it's a little warm, and it's more bland. The director turned a fake documentary into a real one, but it can only be said that he is inexperienced and needs to be improved. Movies really have to be avoided by all means.
In addition to the problem of the script, I think there are quite a few logical problems. Since the male protagonist uses DV to record many unseen things, will he not come back to see these records? The movement of the compass, burning, he saw no response? In the end, the heroine decided not to leave and smiled strangely. He didn't respond? Is he a normal person... or is he clueless...
But after all, it's a low-budget film, with no big-name stars, no props, just a house and a rope (this rope can drag the door to swing back and forth, and the heroine is dragged away in the climax of the film), eh? gone.
When I watched this film, I was quite confused. There were no subtitles in the AVI format. When I downloaded the subtitles, they didn't match. The second one was a bunch of garbled characters, and the third one finally matched. I found that N lines of lines were not translated... Let’s watch it, I watched the film for more than an hour for almost three hours, maybe this also affected my favorability of this film.
In the end, I gave three stars. The performance of the actors is still good. I was also a little nervous about the part where the male protagonist took the DV to the attic in the later stage. After all, we can't expect any special effects for 11,000 US dollars. Feel real.
