Jesus doesn't show up in the entire movie, and the 2016 version loses on this point. Jesus, who did not show his face, has a full sense of existence, and he does not appear in a play, leaving room for reverie, which is really wonderful. Jesus is everything in this movie, but it's in between. I can't find a better way to do it.
Charlton Heston has always been not well-known in the mainland, but he has "Ten Commandments", "Ben-Hur", "Planet of the Apes", etc., etc., and he has handed down enough works. In this film, he interprets the male lead very well, and therefore won the Oscar for Best Actor. Some people say that he is only suitable for playing Wei Guangzheng, but he perfectly interprets Ben Hur's downfall and sadness.
Since the remake cannot surpass the classics, there is no need for the remake. Compared with the 1959 version, the actors in the new version are not heavy enough. I don't think the actors' acting skills can surpass the 59 version.
The 59 version of the photography is not out of date now, and the circus is far beyond the times and is an eternal classic.
Although some people don't like the story, the technical innovation of the film is undeniable. The influence on future generations is also undeniable.
PS: Judas Iscariot's English name is Judas, and Ben Hur's name is Judah Ben Hur, which is very confusing, and some people will confuse the two.
