Humanity and Religion in Iranian Cinema

The whole movie was so suffocating. The plot is ups and downs, and the lines are dense at the beginning, and it is a little bit distracting to keep up with the rhythm. The film begins and ends with a divorce decree. After all, two people are not suitable. For their daughters, such an environment is really too depressing. If I were Ximin, I would also want to escape. Who would want their daughter to be blocked by school all the time? , it's too difficult...

ps. Iran's religious traditions are too strong.

The ending leaves an open ending. Who will Temei choose? I guess it should be her mother, because her father's lying may have caused the collapse of her inner father image, and after experiencing this incident, her mother is sure Nor would they want to stay in Iran any longer. Temei chose her father because she didn't want to let her parents separate, but Temei should not be able to let go of her father. After all, she would rather lie and accept her inner condemnation than let her father leave her and suffer in prison. The ending is still very clever.

There are several impressive points: 1. The maid's daughter is playing with the old man's oxygen machine. I feel that it is necessary to teach children what they can and cannot do. Although she may not understand at her age, it is really scary. It feels like the kind of accident that can kill people.

2. The maid's daughter and Temei were still able to laugh and play after the two families went through such a lawsuit. It was not until the gloomy gaze of the two in the last scene that they seemed to have indifference and hatred.

3. The maid's husband is really unpleasant. After losing his job, he owes a debt and can't control his temper...I don't know if this is the social environment in Iran. Both families are too real, including going to school. Threats and arguments in front of a judge, two classes, two lives, one tragedy.

4. It is human nature for a female teacher to change her testimony after being threatened. Who wouldn't want to protect herself when faced with such a thing.

5. Both sides lied in the film. As the male protagonist said, the law is ruthless, and everyone just starts from their own perspective and interests.

6. As for the maid, she may be used to this kind of submissive life and dare not disobey her husband. Her starting point may be that she was afraid that her husband would accuse her of not protecting her child and thus miscarry, so she did not dare to tell the truth, but things turned towards her. With the development in an uncontrolled direction, the other party proposed to settle it with money. But in the end, the maid was willing to tell the truth not because there was repentance in her heart, but because she was afraid that her family would suffer God's revenge for receiving this ill-gotten wealth. Religion really permeates all aspects of Iran, and in the end, she didn't dare to swear to the Koran, and her husband paid off the debt. Who knows what else she will face, maybe her family will be broken.

7. After converting the Iranian currency, 300,000 only reached the Iranian minimum wage at the beginning? Moreover, the maid gets up at 5 o'clock every day. It is so hard to take care of the elderly. In the end, she can't get paid that day. It can be seen that the male protagonist has done too much. Although I just saw the scene where his father was tied by a rope and fell under the bed I also felt very angry, but the maid was really afraid that the old man would run out of the house again, so she had to do this. Both parties were helpless and difficult, but this tragedy happened.

When it comes to the recent hot events, I can really feel the same way. Neither of the two parties is a wicked person, and they are only seeking benefits from their own standpoints, but watching all this from God’s perspective seems to be incomprehensible, although there are misunderstandings, But the parties simply do not want to communicate rationally. Maybe it's human nature...

The production cost of this film is only 300,000 yuan and it was shot almost entirely with handheld lenses. It’s really amazing. No wonder there are several fixed empty shots that feel a little shaky. Alas, a good drama is actually more important than a delicate big scene.
