When can we have our own "Philadelphia Story"?

Since a decision last year, he has become an exceptionally sensitive person. While living a happy life, many things that I didn't take seriously in the past began to touch me deeply, about love, life, meaning, fairness... It

's hard to believe that "Philadelphia Story" is a movie from 25 years ago. Until today, AIDS is no longer an "incurable disease", and the suppression, discrimination, stigma and ban on LGBT people and minorities are still spreading in the land under their feet. It turns out that we are not even qualified to compare with the fairness, legality and tolerance of the US imperialists 25 years ago.

In addition to the subject matter itself, the film also reflects a lot of human beauty. The male protagonist's tenacious struggle on the road of fairness, the warmth and infinite support of the family, the dignified farewell before his death, and so on.

Even though the tone of the film is heavy and tense, I found several cute points. Including the great impact of the male protagonist listening to the opera (good taste) on the lawyer's aesthetics (and willpower) (going home and chatting with his wife next door); as well as the lawyer's black baby and the dolls we are familiar with. The shades are very different.

finally.
We once made a movie like Farewell My Concubine, although it ended tragically; but after many years, we can't even make such a tragedy.

Philadelphia quotes

  • Joe Miller: What's wrong with your face?

Andrew Beckett: [upon entering Joe's office] I have AIDS.

  • [Andrew transcendentally describes his favorite opera, slowly walking around his apartment, closing his eyes, looking up]

Andrew Beckett: Do you like opera?

Joe Miller: I'm not that familiar with opera.

Andrew Beckett: This is my favorite aria. This is Maria Callas. This is "Andrea Chenier", Umberto Giordano. This is Madeleine. She's saying how during the French Revolution, a mob set fire to her house, and her mother died... saving her. "Look, the place that cradled me is burning." Can you hear the heartache in her voice? Can you feel it, Joe? In come the strings, and it changes everything. The music fills with a hope, and that'll change again. Listen... listen..."I bring sorrow to those who love me." Oh, that single cello! "It was during this sorrow that love came to me." A voice filled with harmony. It says, "Live still, I am life. Heaven is in your eyes. Is everything around you just the blood and mud? I am divine. I am oblivion. I am the god... that comes down from the heavens, and makes of the Earth a heaven. I am love!... I am love."
