Political and entertaining old movies

Just finished rewatching. Released in 1998, it is already an old film more than 20 years ago.

The creators have a clear-cut stand, clearly pointing to the issue of privacy protection in modern society. In those days, it still gave the audience a great shock and education. More than 20 years later, it never seems outdated.

The setting is still a mainstream commercial film. The first half of the male protagonist was abused badly enough, and all depended on the pig's feet to survive. In the second half, only professional help can be organized to counterattack, and finally comedy happy endings. Such a setting should be said to please more audiences, but it also weakens the ideology.

Finally, I want to say that Gene Hackman is also very good.

Which is more important, personal privacy or national security? Who will watch over the man? There is no solution to this problem, or no explanation is needed at all, because those in power will not care about this problem, it is just a senseless struggle of all beings under powerless resistance.

It is very interesting to watch this film after Snowden detonated the "Prism Gate" incident. The predictability of the film is quite high. This film is indeed very good. The story is presented in a small way, and the conception is very clever. In addition, the civil and military drama is reasonable and appropriate, the pace of the whole film is relaxed, and several leading actors have played well. Tony Scott's films have always had a deep Hollywood imprint. "Ingenuity" is his characteristic, and this film is also his representative work.

Enemy of the State quotes

  • Robert Clayton Dean: He said his name was Brill.

Brill: He said it, or you said it and he picked up on it?

Robert Clayton Dean: [pause] Oh shit, I said it.

  • Jamie Williams: Ooh, sensitive.
