Eastern Promises

David Cronenberg's films have always been associated with violent perversions. This Eastern Promises is a warmer one in his works, although scenes such as throat cutting and knife battles are still bloody. A lot of people compare this movie to The Godfather; both are gangster movies and good movies in my opinion, but not the same genre at all. To use an analogy, Eastern Promises are like gunfire, and The Godfather is like the Triad Archives of O's.

Viggo Mortensen, the brave warrior in the Lord of the Rings, incarnates the endless undercover, calm and brutal, gloomy but masculine, such a contradictory performance, which most reflects the strength of the actor.

I'm not familiar with Vincent Cassel, Twelve Arhats is a bad work, so "Night Fox" didn't leave much impression; Irreversible only watched the famous opening and missed his performance; just from the evaluation of this film, Obviously also a good actor, playing a cowardly but bluffing second-generation ancestor to the bone.

The heroine Naomi Watts is also an acquaintance, the woman next to King Kong, hehe.

btw: A throat-cutting scene in the film was arranged when the fans of Chelsea and Arsenal entered the stadium before the game, but I also saw how the British fans were scolding each other, ^_^

Eastern Promises quotes

  • Anna: My uncle has gone missing, since I told you about him translating the diary.

Nikolai Luzhin: Your uncle is fine, he is in Edinburgh, in a 5-Star Hotel. I was ordered to send him to Heaven with a bullet in his brain... instead I gave him a first class ticket to Scotland. He is old-school, he understands things... exile or death.

  • Kirill: [about Nikolai] He is no driver, he is the undertaker.
