2009 old works
I went to the cinema to watch the movie last night. It has been released for several weeks. I have been waiting for the English version, but there are only translations and productions. Listening to Uncle Tang talking about German is a bit cold...
To be honest, I didn't watch this movie as a Hollywood drama. I have to say that I may not have a high level of consciousness. I have been thinking about how to evaluate the last of the 15 assassinations of Hitler? But before starting this topic, let’s comment on the many handsome uncles and grandpas in the film.
Uncle Tang: As the absolute protagonist, this time, I have done my best to play the German noble Nazi officer Stauffenberg. Although the American flavor is still inadvertently, it is still amazing to a large extent, and I have a good grasp of the character's psychology. , but the biggest failure is the cliché "farewell" sensational...
Bill Nighy: Plays Olbricht. An old British actor, needless to say about his acting skills, when he was waiting for the news of Hitler's death, he didn't know whether it was the sound effects of the cinema or his outstanding acting skills. My MS was also nervous and sweaty.
Thomas Kretschmann: Playing Otto Remer, the actor is a professional Nazi officer, remember that "The Pianist", that poor pianist's Nazi is played by this person. As a native German, playing Nazis is of course handy.
There are many more left. . . Don't make a one-by-one review, just like the handsome guy next to Uncle Tang.
Back to the topic, this assassination operation, in the final analysis, is really like burning the upper valley. Is this about Qi? And what kind of spiritual temperament did these aristocratic Nazis have? What is the motive for "committing the crime"?
1. Spirit: Different from commoners or ordinary celebrities
Aristocrats have always been proud and have their own standards for dealing with the world. At this point, it is impossible for them to leave Germany like the common people, or ordinary celebrities, and emigrate to a foreign country - even if Germany was no longer a country at that time. The orthodox life experience gave them a different national concept in their hearts. This concept is not "cultural Germany", but "honorary Germany". For this reason, they were able to follow Hitler for the "honor" of the country at the beginning, and to see through the Nazis' self-confidence. After the demise, you can also think of assassinating Hitler and "saving" Germany's "honor", but it has nothing to do with culture and human nature.
After the assassination mission is decided, the next individual's mentality is different. Stauffenberg had no hesitation in assassinating Hitler to save Germany. But Olbricht's speculative mentality is a clear indication of the fragility of individual heroism in the face of a powerful ruler like Hitler's Kalisma.
But in any case, this group of people who want to assassinate Hitler is of course better than the people who just survive, because they have not completely lost their principles, but in my opinion, they are not as good as Thomas Mann who truly understands the true meaning of "cultural Germany". Always have principles.
2. Means: revisionism?
I actually thought of this word. Of course this is a general understanding. After history has passed, everyone has become wise and become an afterthought. When the reality is in front of us, revisionism can also be regarded as a brave act. But my thinking is that revisionism is not enough in the face of what the Nazis are doing. Especially in the period of desperate struggle to make corrections, it is not a big deal. Just as the Chinese dynasties and dynasties were about to perish their country, they jumped out of some loyal ministers and righteous people, only to think of killing traitorous officials to protect the country and the country, which is actually not a great righteousness.
It’s forgivable that Hitler didn’t know what to do before he came to power, and it’s understandable to agree with him at the very beginning of his rule, but after Germany began to massacre Jews, launched an all-out war in Europe, and then the domestic economy went downhill, it’s unforgivable to be helping out there. . In 1944, the Jews were almost killed, and the demise of Nazi Germany was just around the corner, so I thought about killing Hitler. too late!
3. Motivation: The so-called other Germany
It is this sentence that is repeatedly stated in the film: We (the people who assassinated Hitler) want to show the world another Germany, not a Nazi Germany.
This seems to be their motive for assassinating Hitler. The question is, is there such a so-called other kind of Germany?
This Germany is their wishful thinking and virtual understanding. In fact, they faced the question they raised—what to do after the successful assassination of Hitler—and they did not have a clear grasp and intention. They thought that after assassinating Hitler and mastering the central system of the country, the Nazis could disappear in a vacuum? Peace talks with the Allies will be accepted? The blood debt owed by the entire Nazis is certainly not something that Hitler can pay with one life.
My understanding is that there has never really been a so-called "other Germany". This is just the obscenity of a small number of revisionist Nazi aristocrats who are divorced from the mass base.
Their failure is inevitable.
4. Conclusion: You can't just be a good person
These people who wanted to assassinate Hitler were actually well-educated nobles, and should be considered good people in the narrow sense of moral sentiment. But what?
In a bad political environment, being a good person in the narrow sense is not enough. Just being a good person is often unfortunate, as Qian Zhongshu said that bad things at both ends "kill two birds with one stone".
If you are a bad person to the end, it is like many people who are actually old Nazis, but after Germany surrendered, they said that they were "persecuted", then they may have a good death in their whole life, and bad people are not tortured by conscience, we all know that .
But if you are unfortunate enough to come from a precious background, to be in the upper echelons, and to be a good person, you have to judge the situation. Ignoring the big environment and being a good person is perhaps the most unsatisfactory one.
Of course, as civilians, we don't have so many concerns. We can be confused people, be free-spirited, and be a speck of dust in history. Of course, we can be more like a person who is principled, who is not infected by narrow-minded patriotism, who understands the concept of the country from a cultural point of view, and who can afford it.
Thomas Mann was asked if he missed Germany after traveling to the United States several times after the Nazis came to power. Man replied (for ease of understanding, the English translation was taken):
Where I am, there is Germany. I carry my German culture in me. I have contact with the world and I do not consider myself fallen.
The "other Germany" was not in the hands of the Stauffenbergs, but went elsewhere with the likes of Thomas Mann.
