Apart from Chaplin, little is known about silent films. Therefore, the public opinion said that this film only restores the shape of the silent film but cannot restore the god of the silent film. This kind of judgment has little impact on me. But at a certain level, I do feel that the heroine is not tasteful enough, and her beauty was far less popular in that era than it is now. As for the male protagonist, at first glance, I was sure that he had the atmosphere of that era.
All along, I have high requirements for romantic films, and it is difficult for me to be moved by love in the general sense. So this love in "The Artist", let alone the vulgarity, the plot is really quite blunt! Did the story develop too fast, from the kindness of the encounter to the love? And the male protagonist's wife has nothing to do with the male protagonist apart from leaving him when he is down to show that the male protagonist is useless in the whole film? Although it may seem cliché to add fuel to the flames, such love is really hopeless.
Although love can't move me, there is something in this film that moves me quite a bit. The transformation from silent film to talking film, how should those proud silent film artists face it? Continue to guard this pride with an uninhibited attitude, or let go of what you have and devote yourself to a new world? Innovation is right, this is the requirement of the times. But is it wrong for those who persevere? Whether it is out of a sense of superiority or because of resistance to change, even if there is no confidence to persevere, there is still an infinite persistence in the cause of the love in the heart. What if you're down? What if you're down and out? Because of love and infinite trust, is this wrong? When it comes to examples in life, there are always seniors who tell me that now the paper media is not popular, the new media is the king, don't think about the paper media. But for me, the love for print media is far greater than TV media and new media. So, even in the present and future where print media is gradually being replaced, how can I let go of my enthusiasm for it? In short, adapting to change is a kind of ability, and resisting change is also respectable. The black and white silent film is just a form of tribute, and the dedication to the passion for the cause displayed at the content level is the true meaning of the title "The Artist".
Of course, there is another reason that attracted me to watch this film, and that is McDowell. A Clockwork Orange made me fall in love with him with exaggerated and evil eyelashes. Although he is really old now, and he only appeared in the whole film for less than 1 minute, but at least he is a very energetic old man!
Come to think of it, it would be nice if I was the only one in the whole theater at the time. With four couples, it is really not a good viewing experience for me who is alone!
