A very tragic story. From the perspective of a commercial film, the logic of the story is not strong. In fact, it is a bit like a fairy tale structure, with stories within stories, and there are a lot of metaphors. But if you read it completely, there is basically no problem in understanding the plot. The director just replaced the plot of a little girl helping a friend escape with a grown-up story. It should be said that the film has three layers: the
ontology layer: a little girl is sent to a mental hospital by her stepfather, helps a friend to escape, and then is cut off from her sense of self.
Metaphorical layer: A girl in a club tries to escape the
imaginary layer together: Whenever the girl starts dancing, she will immerse herself in the imagination to gain inspiration for the future, and her killing moves are the metaphorical dance.
The characters in the three levels are mapped together, and the last mysterious character is the old man, who is the messenger of fate. In fact, this is a structural analysis of things, signifiers and signifieds.
Aside from this plot design, the production level is also extremely high. Whether it is the music of bjork and others, or a large number of excellent fighting scenes, it is enough to push this film to four stars, which is enough for a commercial film.

Sucker Punch quotes

  • Wiseman: Oh, yeah. One last thing.

  • Blue Jones: I try to give you all... a good life. I try. I do. And all I ask for in return is just for... respect... honesty. You know-- Oh, that's okay, Margaret. A give-and-take relationship. But it's come to my attention-- it's come to our attention... that a few bad eggs... led by one little egg in particular... have spit in the face of that generosity... and are plotting against me. Me. Your father. Your lover. Your employer. Plotting to take from me my most precious possessions. Your very selves.
