On November 15, my short review after watching the preview was as follows: "Rowling once again hit me with a strong thematic core. The role of this part may be more of a foreshadowing. It is divided into multiple narrative lines, although it leads to the previous part. It is relatively scattered, but in the end you will understand that the core of this is actually the "choice" discussed in HP; the unique "screen jump" of the IMAX version makes people integrate into it, and the expanded magical world map is also transformed through space and more diverse. The animals were on display; the young actors did a great job!”
At first I said "theme", but after thinking about it, it should be called "motif", which is "any technique, object or theme idea that is constantly repeated in the film" ("Knowledge"). Films, 12th Edition, p546). Unlike a concept as big as the theme, "choice" here should belong to the repetition of the theme in the motif.
The motif I feel is "choice". In fact, about the motif of "choice", there are already many manifestations in the HP series. For example, in the first Philosopher's Stone, Ollivander said, "It is not the wizard who chooses the wand, but the wand that chooses the wizard." Harry resolutely chose Gryffindor when sorting the house. Hermione, as a good student who studied hard and obeyed the school rules, chose to take risks with Harry Ron. Neville chose to stand on the side of the school rules to "confront" the same house Three groups; the more recent ones, such as Dumbledore who chose to drink poison in the cave to get the Horcrux, and Snape, who was exposed at the end, chose to protect Lily. The HP series is full of choices, and ultimately the fate of the characters.
When FB2 first released the trailer, the theme of "choice" had already emerged. Theseus said to Newt, "You must choose to stand in line", and the Ministry of Magic asked Dumbledore to choose to stand on the opposite side of Grindelwald; In the later feature films, we also see different choices between different characters. Credence follows Grindelwald just to know his own background, and Rita chooses to fight against Grindelwald's farewell, "I love You", Newt finally said to Theseus, "Actually, I have already made a choice." It is also repeating and deepening the motif of "choice".
What really made me suddenly realize the existence of the "motif" of "choice" was actually Queenie's choice. In order to be with her beloved No-Maj Jacob, she did not hesitate to stand on the side of the villain Grindelwald. Facing Jacob's rejection, she really became the "madman" that Jacob thought. The twisted face of the obsessive style makes people feel embarrassed. Grindelwald is good at demagogic people. In his final speech, he forced everyone to make a choice. No one is immune to inaction. This is what makes me feel the most poignant and sad. Reasonable analysis, Queenie's anti-water is actually expected and reasonable. After all, she is directly related to No-Maji Jacob, and she is directly related to the heroine's sister Tina. From another point of view, it is also connected to the hero Newt, who has an ambiguous relationship with the heroine. She is also the one who has the Legilimency skill to strengthen the villain role. She has a strong bond and connection function. to a more important role. In fact, what I am most afraid of is that Rowling will write Queenie as a Snape-style character who sacrifices herself for love. I don't want to see a gentle and kind-hearted her shoulder such a big mission, but Rowling is indeed a somewhat cruel writer, What is Queenie's fate in the end, let's continue to pay attention to the development of the next few episodes.
Rowling can continue the motif of the Harry Potter series in the Fantastic Beasts series. This is one aspect that I will be excited about as a fan, because I think that only with the same theme can the series of movies be able to explore in depth. Topic, only the main core that can be expressed. As for whether the choices made by each character are good or bad, it is not the focus of this article. The character needs either an opportunity or a motive to complete his own destiny, and "choice" is one of the moments that shape the character's destiny.
As mentioned in the short comment, the role of FB2 may be more about linking the previous and the next, and the failure to achieve the expected "bigger pattern" effect may be because more scenes are like "sleeping beast fights" rather than real duel scenes. The time for the real confrontation has not yet arrived. But compared to the fact that most of Harry Potter's plots take place in school, it can be seen that Rowling is indeed gradually expanding the territory of the wizarding world, and the wizarding world has also been paved with more darkness by her, and she is no longer a student to fight the villain. Level of resistance (distressed Voldemort for a second). This may also be because the fans have grown with the work, and Rowling has to make changes in the depth of the plot accordingly. I personally like this kind of change. Although the narrative line in the previous part is scattered and messy, but in the end, it continues and deepens the "choice" motif, and also intensifies the conflict between the pros and cons of the wizarding world, creating a darker atmosphere, and I am still willing to give it four stars.
Not much to say, looking forward to the third part! For the Greater Good!
