The Lion King Quotes

  • Mufasa: Everything the light touches... is our kingdom. But a king's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, the sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king.

  • [last lines]

    Mufasa: Remember...

    [Simba roars]

  • [first lines]

Scar: [to mouse] Life's - not fair - is it, my little friend? While some are born to feast - others spend their lives in the dark... begging for scraps. The way I see it, you and I are exactly the same, we both want to find a way out.

  • Mufasa: Everything you see - exists together in a delicate balance. While others search for what they can take, a true king searches for what he can give.

  • Mufasa: [from trailer] You must take your place... in the circle of life.

  • Scar: Run away Simba, and NEVER return!

  • Mufasa: Simba, you must remember who you are: the one true king.

  • Pumbaa: [as he and Timon catch up with Simba and Nala, about to reclaim Pride Rock from Scar] We're here!

Timon: Oh, everyone calm down. We're here.

    Pumbaa: The backup has arrived!

  • Young Simba: I'm going to be King of Pride Rock. I want to be brave like you.

Mufasa: I'm only brave when I have to be.

  • Scar: I must take the throne.

  • Mufasa: [from TV spot] Look at the stars, the great kings look down on us from those stars... And so will I.

  • Simba: Come on, what are you waiting for?

  • Rafiki: Who are you?

    Simba: I'm nobody.

Rafiki: Everybody is somebody. So I ask again, who are you?

  • Rafiki: [to Simba] Look closer. You see, he lives in you.

  • Rafiki: And so, I asked... who are you?

Simba: I am Simba, son of Mufasa.

  • Simba: My father once told me: protect everything the light touches, if I don't fight for it who will?

  • Pumbaa: How bleak is that?

Timon: Now his problems are my problems.

  • Young Simba: Wait, Dad, let me come, I can help.

Mufasa: No son, you must stay with the other cubs.

  • Young Simba: What's a motto?

    Timon: Nothing, what's a motto-with-you?

    Pumbaa: Nice!

    Timon: Boom!

  • Zazu: How lovely to see the future King and Queen!

Young Simba: What do you mean?

Zazu: One day, you will be betrothed.

Young Nala: Simba, you speak bird?

    Zazu: Married... to each other.

    Young SimbaYoung Nala: Ewwww!

  • Timon: That never gets old!

  • Nala: Are you with me, lions?

  • Simba: You can't win, Scar!

Scar: This is my kingdom! My destiny!

  • Scar: I was first in line... until the prince arrived.

  • Young Simba: I'm gonna be the king of Pride Rock.

    Scar: Is that so?

  • Scar: There is nobody to challenge me.

    [Simba roars]

    Nala: Simba.

  • Scar: Mufasa and Simba are gone... I... am your king.

  • Young Simba: You live here?

Timon: Well, we live wherever we want.

Pumbaa: We do as we please.

  • Timon: If you want to live with us, you have to eat like us

[Timon and Pumbaa are eating grubs]

    Timon: Mmmm, extra crunchy.

    Pumbaa: They're local.

    Timon: Oh, are they?

    Pumbaa: They're from right there.

  • Timon: [about the hyenas] What's your plan for getting us past the slobbering guards?

Pumbaa: All we need to do is find something that's like big and juicy...

[Simba, Nala, and Zazu stare at him]

Pumbaa: Why is everybody looking at me?

  • Simba: [singing Hakuna Matata] One more time.

Pumbaa: I think we got this one.

Simba: We're just getting into the groove.

Timon: Let's leave a morning roll.

  • Timon: King... Simba?

Pumbaa: We kneel before you as loyal servants.

  • Scar: Mufasa has something he didn't have before... A weakness.

  • Scar: When I am king, the mighty will be able to take whatever they want.

  • Scar: This gorge is where all lions, come to find their roar.

Young Simba: All lions, even my Dad?

Scar: Even Mufasa came here when he was your age, refused to leave until his roar could be heard above the rim.

Young Simba: All the way up there?

Scar: That's when you know you've found it, with a little practice you'll never be called a cub again.

    Young Simba: Watch this.

    [does a small roar]

Scar: You'll get it Simba, just takes time, I'll check on you later.

Young Simba: Dad will be so proud, huh?

    Scar: It's a gift, he'll never forget.

  • Pumbaa: I missed 'em, I'm gonna get one of those vultures one day; I'm gonna get one!

Timon: I don't know why it's so important to you.

Pumbaa: I just feel like it would make me feel better.

    [gasps]

Pumbaa: Oh no, it's a little lion!

Timon: That is not a lion.

Pumbaa: Well then, go check it out; what is it?

Timon: That is not a lion, it's a furry bird.

Pumbaa: It looks like a lion.

Timon: It's not a li--let me get a closer look, excuse me.

    [huffs]

Timon: All right, let me see what we're dealing with here.

    [alarmed]

Timon: It's a lion! Run for your life, Pumbaa!

Pumbaa: Wait, hey, Timon, wait, wait, hey, Timon, it's a little lion!

Timon: [hiding behind rock] It gets bigger.

Pumbaa: Can we keep him, can we please keep him? Oh, oh, okay, I promise I'll walk him every day; if he makes a little mess, I'll clean it up!

Timon: You'll be his little mess; he's gonna eat you and then use my body as a toothpick.

Pumbaa: But one day when he's big and strong, he'll be on our side.

Timon: I got it: what if he's on our side? Hear me out: having a ferocious lion around might not be a bad idea.

Pumbaa: Well then, can we keep him?

Timon: Yes, of course we can keep him! My God, who's the brains of this operation?

Pumbaa: [singing] We're gonna name him Fred!

  • Scar: [to the hyenas] The way I see it, why eat one meal... when you can be feasting the rest of your lives? Are you hungry?

  • Scar: Welcome to the dawning of a new era.

  • Scar: [from trailer] Welcome to the dawning of a new era.

  • Scar: BE PREPARED!

  • Scar: Mufasa, quick! Stampede in the gorge, Simba's down there!

    Mufasa: Simba?

  • Mufasa: Don't turn your back on me, Scar!

Scar: Oh, no, Mufasa. Perhaps you shouldn't turn your back on me.

    Mufasa: Is that a challenge?

  • Mufasa: Stay low to the ground, check the wind... the shadows, and wait for the perfect moment to pounce.

  • Timon: Repeat after me, Hakuna Matata.

    Young Simba: What?

  • Scar: Long, live...

    [Raises paws]

    Scar: THE KING!

    [Scar slaps Mufasa]

Mufasa: [screams as he falls] Aaaa-aaaa-aaaahhhh!

    Young Simba: [cries out] No-oooo-oooo-oooo!

  • Azizi: It's perfect, 'cause I'm starving.

  • Kamari: [Simba lets out a small roar, causing Azizi to burst out laughing] Did you hear that? The future King.

    Azizi: Do it again.

[Simba roars but it's actually Mufasa]

  • Mufasa: [threateningly] If you ever come near my son again...

Shenzi: [nods her head; weakly] No Mufasa, Never. Never again.

    Mufasa: You've been warned, Shenzi.

  • Scar: You fools have stripped your land of every living thing. And yet, I sent two little cubs your way and they come back alive.

Kamari: I guess we'll have to eat you instead.

Scar: Why eat one meal when you could be feasting the rest of your lives.

Shenzi: What could you possibly offer us?

Scar: A place where you could fill your bellies. For everything the light touches is yours for the kill.

Shenzi: The Pride Lands are not yours to give. The king controls those hunting grounds.

Scar: That's why I'm going to kill him. Mufasa has always shown too much restraint when it comes to hunting. When I am king, the mighty will be free to take whatever they want. Because a hyena's belly is never full.

Shenzi: Mufasa's far too powerful to challenge.

Scar: Mufasa is yesterday's message A clapped out, distracted regime whose failings undoubtedly presage the need for a different dream.

  • Mufasa: Zazu? Take Nala back to Pride Rock.

Zazu: Yes, sire. Don't be too hard on him, sire. I remember a cub. A certain headstrong cub. Who was always getting into scrapes and he achieved some prominence, did he not, sire?

Mufasa: I have to teach my son a lesson.

    Zazu: Nala, come along.

  • Simba: It's over, Scar.

    Scar: Have mercy on me.

Simba: Mercy? For what you did.

Scar: It was the hyenas. Those were the revolting, scavengers made me do it. I was planning on killing them all.

Simba: You fooled the hyenas? Just like you fooled me.

Scar: Simba, you wouldn't kill your only uncle.

Simba: No, Scar. I'm not like you.

Scar: Oh, Simba. You are truly noble, and I will make it up to you. Just tell me how I can prove myself. Tell me what you want me to do.

Simba: Run... Run away, Scar. Run away, and never return.

Scar: Yes. Of course... As you wish.

[looking down and seeing a pile of hot coals, began to angry]

    Scar: Your majesty!

[throws embers of fire at Simba's face]

  • Scar: Say it, Are you the king?

    Simba: No, No-I...

    Scar: Are you the king?

    Simba: No...

    Scar: No what? Say it!

    Simba: I'm nothing

Scar: Then bow to your King!

[Simba falls and hangs over the ledge of Pride Rock]

  • Kamari: Mufasa is strong.

  • Kamari: The next time I see Mufasa, I'm gonna teach him a lesson he will never forget.

Azizi: [notices Scar behind him, mistakes him for Mufasa] Well your in luck, he's right behind you.

  • Scar: You fools have stripped your land of every living thing, and yet I send two little cubs your way, why eat one meal when you can be feasting the rest of your lives, a place where you can fill your bellies

Shenzi: What could you possibly offer us.

Scar: Where everything the light touches is yours.

  • Zazu: The king approaches! This is not a drill. His Majesty has requested an audience. Upon his entrance, you will rise and genuflect.

Scar: Zazu... you've made me lose my lunch.

Zazu: You will answer to Mufasa for missing the ceremony this morning.

Scar: I answer to no one.

Zazu: Scar? Scar! Scar, Scar, Scar, Scar, Scar, no! No, don't look at me like that.

Scar: Are you hungry, Zazu? Perhaps--we could have a bite together!

    [lunges at Zazu]

Zazu: You can't eat me. It is forbidden to eat a member of the king's court!

[Scar pins him to the ground]

    Zazu: Ow! Please! Stop it!

    Mufasa: [enters the den] Scar!

Scar: [releases Zazu and faces his brother] Well, look who's come to mingle with the commoners.

Mufasa: Sarabi and I didn't see you at the presentation of Simba.

Scar: Was that today? Must've slipped my mind. Of course, I meant no disrespect towards His Majesty or Sarabi. As you know, I have tremendous respect for the queen.

Zazu: As the king's brother, you should've been first in line.

Scar: I WAS first in line. Or don't you remember?

[rises up and walks out of the den]

Scar: That is, until the precious--prince arrived.

Mufasa: Don't turn your back on *me*, Scar.

Scar: Oh no, Mufasa; perhaps you shouldn't turn your back on me.

Mufasa: [roars and leaps in front of Scar, blocking his way] Is that a challenge?

Scar: I wouldn't dream of challenging you... again.

Zazu: A wise decision! You are no match for His Royalness.

Scar: Well, as far as brains go, I've got the lion's share, but when it comes to brute strength, I'm afraid my big brother will always rule.

Mufasa: Not always, Scar. One day, it will be my son who rules. Simba will be your king.

Scar: Then long live the king.

Mufasa: [watches his brother leave] What am I gonna do with him?

Zazu: Oh, come on. We both know he should've been expelled from the Pride Lands long ago.

Mufasa: He's my brother. Zazu. This is his home. As long as I am king, that will never change.

  • Simba: [attacks Scar after Scar admitted in to killing Mufasa] My father, your own brother - how could you!

Scar: [to the hyenas and lionesses] First he kills Mufasa, and now he wants to kill me!

Simba: YOU killed him! Tell them the truth!

    Scar: Don't believe his lies!

Sarabi: Scar? You told us you didn't get to the gorge in time.

    Scar: That's true!

Sarabi: [outraged] Then how did you see the look in Mufasa's eyes?

    [Scar growls]

    Simba: MURDERER!

    Scar: KILL THEM ALL!

  • Scar: [notices the hyenas] My friends, it will take some time but together we will build our army.

Kamari: Friends, huh. I thought you said we were revolting scavengers.

Azizi: [angry] Yeah, and you wanted to kill us.

Scar: No, no let me explain I was trying to fool him. We will rule together!

Shenzi: There was only one true thing you ever said Scar, a hyenas belly is never full.

    Scar: NO!

[Scar tries to fight off the hyenas but they all quickly pounce and maul him to death]

  • Simba: [Simba belches] must be the termites.

    Pumbaa: Or the crickets.

  • Pumbaa: [the hyenas are body shaming Pumbaa causing him to react] I may run from hyenas, but I do not run from a bully!

  • Timon: [to Simba] So... how are you, in as few words as possible?

  • Timon: [Pumbaa tells his story of never having any friends because of his flatulence problem, but Timon is quick to remind him that he wasn't totally alone] I was always here for you. I resent that.

  • Timon: [Pumbaa asks Timon if he was ever gonna to interrupted him from saying farted] No, I wasn't; you disgust me

  • Timon: [Simba is singing Hakuna Matata] Oh, now he's riffing, Pumbaa! This is a nightmare!

  • Timon: [Timon explains his life philosophy] Let me make this simple: Life is meaningless.

  • Timon: [to Nala] Lady, you've got your lions crossed.

  • Timon: [Timon's assessing the barren, skeleton-ridden Pride Rock] Talk about a fixer-upper. I think you went heavy on the carcass

  • Timon: [regarding Simba's home] is it past that big scary rock?

  • Timon: Listen, I am happy to admit when Pumbaa's wrong

  • Timon: [distracting the hyenas] Ma chère mademoiselle, we are proud to present... your dinner. Be. Our. Gue - ahhhh!

[Before he can finish performing, the hyenas chase him and Pumbaa off]

  • Shenzi: His father's strength is flickering inside. I wonder how bravery will taste.

  • Mufasa: As king I was proud of one thing, you as my son. That alone. No, that is forever.

  • Sarabi: A king's true power is his compassion.

  • Kamari: [to Simba and Nala] Well look at this, we weren't expecting guests... today. Would you two cubs like to... stay for dinner?

Azizi: [butting in] Yeah stay for dinner, because you look like a midnight snack.

Kamari: [annoyed and irritated] Can you just give me a little bit of space.

Azizi: [backing up a little] I'm helping.

Kamari: We've talked about this before- I come in alone I'm the lead distraction so everyone can circle.

    Azizi: Okay, okay. I'm sorry.

Kamari: Don't be sorry, just do it!

Shenzi: Now this is a meal I've waited my whole life. What an unexpected treat to meet the son of a king.

Kamari: Wait a second the king, as in you know who.

Azizi: Who rules you know where.

Shenzi: Mufasa does not rule me.

Young Simba: You cant do anything to me, because I'm the future king.

Shenzi: [chuckles] he's telling me what to do, his father's strength flickering inside, I wonder how all that bravery will taste.

Zazu: [suddenly appears] Let them go Shenzi. They made a mistake a horrible mistake, but if you do this, you will start a war with Mufasa.

Shenzi: Hyenas and Lions have been at war since the beginning of time. But Mufasa's bloodline WILL END HERE.

[lunges at Simba and Nala but they escape]

Shenzi: don't let them get away!

  • Scar: [as Simba hangs over the ledge of Pride Rock] where have I seen this before? Oh yes, I remember this is the way Mufasa looked before he died. I looked down saw the fear in his eyes

    [claws simbas arms]

Scar: and heres my little secret... I killed Mufasa.

  • Sarafina: Nala come here, sit with us.

Nala: [Zazu arrives] Zazu, where have you been?

Zazu: I'm sorry Nala, I came as soon as I could.

[the sounds a hyena is heard]

    Sarabi: The morning report, Zazu.

Zazu: Your Majesty, the Pride Lands are in imminent danger. The hyenas are chasing off the last of the herds

    Azizi: The birds back.

    Kamari: Get him!

[Kamari and Azizi try to chase off Zazu]

Kamari: Don't come here again unless you want to be eaten.

  • Scar: Sarabi why put yourself through this, all you have to do is be my queen. Your suffering from what a memory of a life you once knew, a king you once loved. I tried to make you understand what a true king can be.

Sarabi: Scar, a true kings power is his compassion.

Scar: [angered] I AM TEN TIMES THE KING, MUFASA WAS!

Sarabi: You are nothing compared to Mufasa.

    [Scar attacks Sarabi]

Scar: [notices a roaring Simba] Mufasa, that can't be.

Simba: Get away from my mother!

  • Pumbaa: You thought he was dead? I thought I was dead!

  • Mufasa: [to Simba; regarding everything the light touches] It belongs to know one, but it is yours to protect.

  • Zazu: Two giraffes were caught necking.

  • Mufasa: [as ghost; to Simba] I never left you. I never will. Remember who you are.

  • Young Nala: [Zazu has told her and Simba that one day they will be married] I'd rather marry an aardvark.

  • Mufasa: Believe in yourself and there will come a day when others will have no choice but to believe with you.

  • Shenzi: [Simba has fallen over a high cliff] Go down, and make sure he's dead.

Kamari: [Azizi gets to close to him; annoyed] Seriously

    Azizi: Oh, I'm sorry.

Kamari: [Azizi backs up a bit] That's a good distance right there.

    Azizi: Ok.

Kamari: [they both look down the ravine] No little cub could survive that fall, listen we're gonna tell her we went down there and we ate him

Azizi: [misunderstanding] Uh-huh, that's perfect cause I am starving.

Kamari: [annoyed] We're not gonna eat him, 'Simba is dead', that's all she ever has to know.

    Azizi: Works for me.

  • Azizi: Mufasa is strong, like way stronger than us

Kamari: [Azizi sits way to close to him] Please give me some space.

    Azizi: What?

Kamari: You can lay anywhere in this cave

Azizi: Where do you want me to...

Kamari: [pushes him] I need some personal space.

Azizi: Ok, ok. Not to take anything away from you. You were great. But he is...

Kamari: See now I know your doing this on purpose.

Azizi: And brave too, tough, good energy

Kamari: Now your just being spiteful

    Azizi: Good posture.

Kamari: [finally fed up] Next time I see Mufasa I'm going to teach him a lesson he will never forget.

Azizi: [notices Scar] Well your in luck he's right behind ya.

    Kamari: Mufasa?

Shenzi: [sees Scar] That's not the king.

Scar: You fools have stripped your land of every living thing, and yet I send two little cubs your way and they come back alive.

Kamari: I guess we'll have to eat you instead.

Scar: Why eat one meal when you can be feasting the rest of your lives.

Shenzi: What could you... possibly offer us?

Scar: A place where you can fill your bellies, for everything the light touches is yours for the kill

Shenzi: The Pridelands are not yours to keep, the king controls those hunting grounds.

Scar: [after a long pause] That's why were going to kill him.

  • Young Simba: My dad was pretty upset with me

Scar: That's why were here Simba, I think I know a way for you to make it up to him. A gift that will make him forget it ever happened.

Young Simba: But he's the king, what could I give him?

    Scar: Your roar.

    Young Simba: My roar?

    Scar: Yes

    [his voice echos]

    Scar: did you hear that?

  • Nala: We have to do something.

Sarabi: Nala, Scar is the king.

Nala: But you are our queen. We should leave before it's too late.

Sarabi: We must stay together and protect the Pride Lands. This is our home. We must never abandon it.

Nala: This isn't the home I remember.

Sarabi: Our time will come Nala. Be patient.

Shenzi: Sarabi, the king wishes to see you.

    Nala: Don't go.

Sarabi: I am not afraid of him.

  • Azizi: Mufasa is strong, like way stronger than us.

Kamari: [Azizi sits to close to him] Please give me some space.

    Azizi: What?

Kamari: You can lay anywhere in this cave.

Azizi: What do you want me to...

Kamari: [pushes him] I need some personal space.

Azizi: Ok, ok. But you were great, but he is ooof.

Kamari: [irritated] See now I know your doing this on purpose.

Azizi: And brave too, tough, good energy.

Kamari: Now your just being spiteful.

    Azizi: Good posture.

Kamari: [finally fed up] Next time I see Mufasa I'm going to teach him a lesson he will never forget.

Azizi: [sees Scar] Well your in luck he's right behind you.

    Kamari: [turns around sharply] Mufasa?

    Shenzi: That's not the king.

  • Scar: You fools have stripped your land of every living thing, and yet I send two little cubs your way and they come back alive.

Kamari: [the hyenas surround Scar, growling] I guess we'll have to eat you instead.

  • Scar: [Simba has unsuccessfully tried to hunt a beetle] If you wish to kill something, you might want to stay downwind.

Young Simba: I know how to hunt, Uncle Scar.

Scar: Well let's hope we're never attacked by a beetle, go back to your den Simba, I don't babysit.

Young Simba: Babysit? I'm gonna be the King of Pride Rock, my Dad showed me the whole kingdom said I'm going to rule it all.

    Scar: Is that so?

Young Simba: Think about it, when I'm king- I'll have to give you orders, tell you what to do, how weird is that?

Scar: You've no idea. So your dad showed you the whole kingdom, did he show you the shadows beyond the northern borders?

Young Simba: No, he said I can't go there, but...

Scar: And he's absolutely... right. An Elephant Graveyard is no place for a young prince.

Young Simba: An Elephant Graveyard, whoa.

Scar: [feigning surprise] Aah, I've said to much, well I'd supposed you'd of found out sooner or later, you being king and all.

    Young Simba: You've been there?

Scar: We've all been there, it's no place for a cub, all those rotting bones, burning pools of oozing mud.

Young Simba: Rotting bones, oozing mud.

Scar: Promise me you'll stay away Simba. Now you run along, and remember its our little secret... Your Majesty.

  • Scar: Simba! What have you done?

Young Simba: It was a stampede. He tried to save me. It was an accident. I didn't mean for it to...

Scar: Of course you didn't. No one ever means for these things to happen. But the king is dead... and if it weren't for you... he'd still be alive. Your father had such hopes for you... gave you so many chances. And this is how you repay him.

    Young Simba: I didn't know. I didn't know.

Scar: Oh, what will your mother think? A son who causes his father's death. A boy who kills a king.

Young Simba: What am I gonna do?

Scar: Run. Run away, Simba. Run away and never return.

  • Scar: Simba... I'm so happy to see you

[Angrily glares at the hyenas behind him]

    Scar: Alive.

Simba: [angry] Give me one good reason why I shouldn't rip you apart.

Scar: I can give you more than one. You see... they think I'm king.

Nala: Well, we don't. Your reign is over, Scar. Simba is the rightful king! If you wanna get him, you have to get through us. Are you with me, lions?

Simba: The choice is yours, Scar. Step down or fight.

Scar: Must this all end in violence? I'd hate to be responsible for the death of a family member. To feel the shame of knowing... I took the life of someone I love.

Simba: I put all that behind me.

Scar: But have they put it behind them? Do your faithful subjects know what you've done?

Nala: What is he talking about?

Scar: So you haven't told them your little secret? Well, Simba... now's your chance to confess. Tell them who's responsible for Mufasa's death.

    Simba: It was me.

Sarabi: It's not true. Tell me it's not true.

    Simba: It's true. I'm sorry.

    Scar: He admits it. Murderer!

Simba: No, no. It was an accident.

Scar: If it weren't for you the king would be alive. It's your fault he's dead! Do you deny it?

    Simba: I'm not a murderer.

Scar: We should believe a son who takes the life of a father? We should believe a son who takes the life of a king? A son who abandons his mother?

  • Shenzi: [Shenzi and Nala face-off] .Now, this is a meal I've waited my whole life for.

Nala: I've been waiting too. And I'm not a cub anymore!

    [Nala manages to defeat Shenzi]

  • Scar: Mufasa's death is a terrible tragedy, the greatest leader the pride has ever known, to lose a brother such... a... deep... personal... loss. And little Simba who had barely begun to live, a cub whose blood held our future, it's almost too much to endure. I only wish I had gotten to the gorge in time been there to save them. And so it is with a heavy heart... That I must... assume the throne. Mufasa and Simba are gone which means I... am your king. But I must admit I cannot bear this burden alone and I will need some help to ensure... the safety of the pride

    [the hyenas congregate the pridelands]

    Sarafina: Nala, stay close.

Scar: And so from the ashes of this tragedy, we shall welcome the dawning of a new era a great and GLORIOUS future!

  • Simba: I told you, isnt it great here? You know maybe it will be like this forever.

Nala: It's amazing. But there's... there's something I don't understand, if you been alive all this time why haven't you come home? We really needed you.

Simba: There fine... alright, nobody needs me.

    Nala: Your the king.

Simba: Nala, Scar is the king.

Nala: Simba he's decimated the pridelands, there's no food, no water.

Simba: There's nothing I can do.

Nala: What about your mother? This is your responsibility. You need to challenge Scar.

Simba: I can't go back, ever.

Nala: Why? Because of what happened at the gorge? Scar told us that...

Simba: You wouldn't understand, none of it matters okay, Hakuna Matata.

    Nala: [confused] What?

Simba: It's something, I learned out here okay. You see sometimes bad things happen and there's nothing you can do about it, so why worry?

Nala: Why worry? What happened to you? You're not the Simba I remember.

Simba: And I never will be, are you satisfied?

    Nala: No, I'm disappointed.

Simba: You know, now you're starting to sound like my father.

Nala: Good, I'm glad one of us does.

Simba: [angry] You have no idea what I've been through.

Nala: I came here looking for help, I guess I made a mistake. Goodbye Simba sorry what happened to you.

    Simba: Let it go.

  • Timon: Pumbaa I think we lost them.

    Pumbaa: That was terrifying.

Timon: Do you hear a low growl.

Hyena: Looks like we'll be having pig for dinner. Plump and chubby.

Pumbaa: Chubby? Did he just call me chubby?

    Timon: Uh-oh.

Pumbaa: It sounded a lot like he just said "chubby". Which would be a mistake because... I will not be made to feel ashamed of who I am.

    Timon: Oh, boy.

Pumbaa: I may run from hyenas... but I will always fight a bully

Timon: [rubbing Pumbaa's head] You feel better Pumbaa?

    Pumbaa: I do.

Timon: You got that out of your system?

    Pumbaa: I did.

  • Zazu: [Nala leaving the Pridelands at night] Just what do you think you are doing, young lady?

Nala: Go away, Zazu. I'm going to find help.

Zazu: I will very much not go away. I am sworn to protect you, and must order you back to bed.

Nala: I don't need protecting anymore.

  • Zazu: [distracting Scar] Uh, Scar! Uh, wonderful to see you. Uh, sorry to drop in like this!

    [Scar lunges at him]

Zazu: Ah! Have I ever told you about my brother who thought he was a woodpecker

[scar and some hyenas chase him away allowing nala to escape]

    Zazu: .

  • Zazu: [distracting Scar] Uh, Scar! Uh, wonderful to see you. Uh, sorry to drop in like this!

    [Scar lunges at him]

Zazu: Ah! Have I ever told you about my brother who thought he was a woodpecker.

  • Scar: [eating gazelle] Won't you join me, Sarabi? There's plenty to go around.

    Sarabi: You're overhunting, Scar.

Scar: I've simply perfected the kill. With the help of my army.

    Sarabi: You're killing everything.

Scar: Don't you see? There is nobody to challenge me. We can finally take whatever we want.

    Sarabi: [confused] We?

Scar: Long ago, you chose Mufasa over me. But now there is a new king. So stop being so selfish.

Sarabi: You are the selfish one.

Scar: The other lions look to you. As long as you resist they will reject me. Take your place by my side, and we will feast together.

Sarabi: I will never be your Queen!

Scar: Then from now on... the lions will eat AFTER the hyenas. And they don't leave much behind.

[the hyenas promptly surround and eat the gazelle]

  • Timon: [Timon and Pumbaa reveal Simba a gorgeous rift-jungle panorama: waterfalls, woods, distant mountains, lush lakes and rivers] Welcome to our humble home.

    Young Simba: You live here?

Timon: Well, we live wherever we want.

Pumbaa: We do as we please.

    Young Simba: It's beautiful!

    Pumbaa: That's really nice, huh?

    Timon: Everyone, this is Simba!

Guinea Fowl: That, my friend, is a lion!

Bush Baby: What 'bout food? Have you thought 'bout feeding that thing?

Young Simba: Yeah, I'm starved. I could eat a whole zebra.

Timon: [under his breath] Oh, here we go.

    [to Simba]

Timon: Uh, no-no-no, kid. Uh, we're fresh out of zebra.

    Young Simba: Any antelope?

    Impala: Uh-oh.

Timon: No, listen, kid. If you want to live with us, you have to eat like us.

Guinea Fowl: And most importantly: not eat us

Timon: This looks like a good spot to rustle up some grub.

[Stopping in front of a log, Pumbaa forces it up with his snout, revealing many insects]

Young Simba: [disgusted] Ewww. What's that?

Elephant Shrew: This one's got the nuttiness.

Timon: Mmmm... now that's what I call slimy.

Pumbaa: [slurps up dozen of the bugs] Slimy, yet satisfying.

    Timon: Mmmm! Extra crunchy.

    Pumbaa: They're local.

    Timon: Oh, are they?

    Pumbaa: They're from right there.

Timon: I'm tellin' ya, kid, this is the great life. No rules. No responsibilities.

    [notices a nearby caterpillar]

Timon: Oooh! The little cream-filled kind! I love it!

Pumbaa: Those are good. Those are the best.

Timon: [offers the caterpillar to Simba] Well, kid?

Young Simba: Oh, well. Hakuna Matata.

[gulps up the caterpillar, then swallows it indisposed, he yet looks more cheerful]

    Young Simba: Slimy, yet satisfying

    Timon: [excited] That's it!

  • Pumbaa: [Timon and Pumbaa meet Zazu for the first time] Hey, hey, look. A bird!

Simba: Timon. Pumbaa. This is Zazu.

Timon: Oh, wow... it's a puppet.

Zazu: Charming. Simba, we are with you until the end.

Pumbaa: We are at your service, my liege.

    Simba: Follow me.

  • Zazu: For king and country! Tally-ho!

  • Azizi: [Zazu pecks Azizi on the head] Gaahh! It's the bird! I got 'im, I got 'im! Get that bird!

  • Young Simba: [wakes up] Who are you?

    Timon: Um...

    Pumbaa: Uhhhh...

Timon: We're the guys who saved your life. Risked everything. Fought off angry vultures.

Pumbaa: Hordes of them, flocks. I'm Pumbaa. This is Timon.

Timon: Did I mention that we've saved your life?

Young Simba: It doesn't matter anyway.

[heads off quietly back out towards the desert and sits down]

Pumbaa: Whoa. How bleak is that? "Doesn't even matter"?

Timon: [sighs] Like I don't have enough that I'm dealing with. His problems are my problems.

Pumbaa: We can help him, we're in a position to help him

    Timon: Uhhhh.

    [to Simba]

Timon: So? How are you in as few words as possible?

Young Simba: I did something terrible. But I don't wanna talk about it.

Pumbaa: Look, kid. We all make mistakes. There must be something we can do, right?

Young Simba: Not unless you can change the past.

Timon: Well, you know, that's a lot to ask. If I'm being honest...

    Pumbaa: That's a biggie.

Timon: ...you can't change the past that's already happened. But you know what you can change? The future! That's our specialty...

Young Simba: How can you change something that hasn't happened?

Timon: Well, to change the future, you gotta put your past behind you.

    Pumbaa: Way behind.

Timon: Look, kid. Bad things happen and you can't do anything about it, right?

    Young Simba: Right.

Timon: WRONG! When the world turns its back on you, you turn your back on the world!

Pumbaa: And only embrace what's next.

Timon: And turn the "What?" into "So, what!"

Young Simba: Well, that's not what I was taught.

Timon: Then maybe you need a new lesson. Repeat after me, kid. Hakuna Matata!

    Young Simba: [confused] What?

    Pumbaa: Hakuna Matata!

    Timon: Hakuna Matata.

Pumbaa: Hakuna... most people get a bigger reaction when we say it! Ha-ku-na Ma-ta-ta. It means "no worries." One, and a...

Timon: [interrupting] Okay. I do the counting.

    Pumbaa: I wanna count!

Timon: Why don't we count together?

Pumbaa: Okay. That's a good idea.

    Timon: All right.

  • Pumbaa: [singing] And, oh, the shame!

    Timon: Yes, he was ashamed!

Pumbaa: I thought of changin' my name!

Timon: I mean, to what? Brad?

Pumbaa: And I got downhearted! Every time that I... far... ted?

    [to Timon]

Pumbaa: Are you gonna stop me!

Timon: No, I'm not! You disgust me!

  • Mufasa: You deliberately disobeyed me.

    Young Simba: I know.

Mufasa: You could have been killed. And what's worse, you put Nala in danger. Do you understand what's at stake? You jeopardized the future of our pride.

Young Simba: [holding back tears] I just wanted to show you I could do it. That I could be brave like you.

Mufasa: I'm only brave when I have to be and leave no other choice.

Young Simba: But you're not scared of anything.

    Mufasa: I was today.

    Young Simba: [disbelieving] You were?

Mufasa: Yes... I thought I might lose you.

Young Simba: I guess even kings get scared, huh?

Mufasa: More than you could ever know.

    Young Simba: But guess what?

    Mufasa: What?

Young Simba: I think those hyenas were even scareder.

Mufasa: 'cause nobody messes with your dad. Come here.

[They nuzzle their heads, and tussle playfully for a brief while]

    Young Simba: Dad?

    Mufasa: Huh?

    Young Simba: We're pals, right?

    Mufasa: [gentle laugh] Right.

Young Simba: And we'll always be together, right?

Mufasa: Simba, let me tell you something my father told me... Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars.

    Young Simba: [awed] Really?

Mufasa: Yes... So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be up there to guide you... and so will I.

Young Simba: But I can't see them, Dad.

Mufasa: Keep looking, son. Keep looking.

  • Timon: [about the hyenas] what's your plan for getting us past the slobbering guards?

    Simba: Live bait.

[He, Nala and Zazu look at Pumbaa]

Pumbaa: That's a great idea. Those guys could never resist fresh meat! So all we need to do is find something that's like big, plump, and juicy, maybe like a gnu...

[They all continue to stare blankly at him]

Pumbaa: why's everyone looking at me?

Timon: [Shenzi's clan are paying attention to Timon and Pumbaa who is set up like a roast pig] Ma chère, mademoiselle. It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we proudly present your dinner! Be... our - GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

[they flew before the clan of hunger mad hyenas]

  • Zazu: Come along! Keep up! Let's move as a unit!

Young Nala: So, were are we really going?

    Young Simba: How'd you know?

Young Nala: You hate the water.

Young Simba: I've heard about this place, Nala, the most incredible, amazing...

Young Nala: Just tell me where?

    Young Simba: An elephant graveyard.

Young Nala: Whoaaa. How far is it?

Young Simba: Not far. Just through the shadows. But don't worry, everyone's been there.

Young Nala: We've never been that far before. What if we get lost?

Young Simba: Relax, Nala. I was shown the entire kingdom this morning with my Dad. There's nothing to worry about.

Young Nala: Well there is one thing...

Zazu: [flying overhead] We have an eminent threat! Something is approaching - oh, wait, scratch that. It's my own shadow.

Young Nala: How do we get rid of the dodo?

Young Simba: Trust me. I got this. Follow me to freedom

Zazu: Oh, how lovely it is to see the future king with his future queen!

    [perches down]

    Zazu: I could just molt...

Young Simba: What do you mean, "future queen"?

Zazu: One day, the two of you will be betrothed. Intended. Affianced.

Young Nala: Simba, you speak bird?

Zazu: Married. One day, you wi be married... to each other.

    Young NalaYoung Simba: [disgusted] Ewwww!

Young Simba: That's not gonna happen, Zazu. Nala and I are friends.

    Young Nala: Never ever

Young Simba: And besides, she's afraid of rhinos.

Young Nala: And he's never eaten an impala.

Young Simba: I've tried it once.

Young Nala: We're never getting married, Zazu.

Zazu: A monarch who ignores tradition? With an attitude like that, I'm afraid you'll be a pretty pathetic king.

Young Simba: Well, I'm not letting anyone tell me where to go, what to do, and even who to marry. There will never be a king like me.

Zazu: Simba, you can't escape your destiny.

  • Simba: [referring to the impala running away from him] What's up with that guy?

Timon: Uh, Simba, How can I say this? He's prey.

    Pumbaa: Yeah

Timon: And he is never going to want to frolic with a carnivore.

Pumbaa: No. You two will never frolic.

    Simba: Why not?

Timon: You see in nature, there's a delicate balance.

Simba: Oh yeah. The circle of life. I know that.

    Pumbaa: No.

Timon: No, no, no. I don't know where you're getting "circle" from

Pumbaa: No, yeah. There's no circle of life.

    Timon: No, it's no Circle.

    Pumbaa: No, not at all.

Timon: In fact, it's the opposite.

    Pumbaa: Yeah.

    Timon: It's a line.

    Pumbaa: Yeah.

Timon: It's a meaningless line of indifference.

Pumbaa: And we're all just running towards the end of that line. Then one day we'll reach the end and that'll be it. That's it. Line over.

    Timon: Nothing.

Pumbaa: Nada. And you can really just kind of Do Your own thing and fend for yourself, because you're line doesn't affect anyone else's line.

Timon: You're alive and then you're not

    [eats an insect]

    Timon: like this guy. Mmm.

Simba: You sure it's not a circle? that we're all connected?

Pumbaa: A circle would mean we're all this. That would mean what I do affects him. affects that thing affects that thing.

Timon: Yeah. No, that's not how it goes.

Pumbaa: Which would make doing whatever we wanted not that cool.

Timon: Let me simplify this for you. Life is meaningless.

Pumbaa: Yes. that's why you just got to look out for yourself. That's why you do you, Simba.

Timon: Yes Simba, for the first time, we're enrusting you to make a plan for us today

Pumbaa: This is important, think about all you've been taught.

Timon: What do you want to do?

    Simba: Absolutely nothing.

    Pumbaa: Exactly!

    Timon: Woo-hoo!

    Pumbaa: He gets it!

  • Timon: [as Simba burps] Oh.

    Pumbaa: Hello!

    [Timon and Pumbaa laugh]

    Timon: Nice one, Simba.

Simba: Oh, thanks. Must've been the termites.

    Pumbaa: [farts] Or the crickets.

Timon: And you wonder why I prefer to sleep underground.

  • Pumbaa: [referring to the stars] Hey, Timon. Do you ever look up there and wonder what those sparkly dots are?

Timon: Oh, Pumbaa. I don't wonder. I know.

    Pumbaa: Really? What are they?

Timon: They're fireflies. Fireflies that got stuck on that big bluish-black thing.

Pumbaa: Oh, I guess that makes sense. I always thought they were balls of gas burning billions of miles away.

Timon: Oh, Pumbaa, why is everything always gas with you?

    Pumbaa: I know.

Timon: What do you think, Simba?

    Pumbaa: Yeah.

Simba: Oh, I don't know. But somebody once told me, the great kings of the past are up there. And they're all watching over us.

    [Timon and Pumbaa start laughing]

    Pumbaa: That's a good one! That's insane! That's insane!

Timon: Royal dead guys watching over us! Well, I hope they don't fall out of the sky!

Pumbaa: Hang on, your majesty! Don't let go!

Timon: Oh, that would be a mess.

    Pumbaa: Oh, man!

Timon: I mean, Simba, think about it. Why would a bunch of kings be looking out for us? We're outcasts.

    Pumbaa: Royal warthogs.

    Timon: I can't!

    Timon: I can't!

    Pumbaa: I actually can't.

    Timon: I can't.

Pumbaa: No, you can. I can't.

    [Timon laughs again]

Simba: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's stupid I'm going to go get some grubs or something

[looking sad, Simba gets up and leaves]

Timon: What did you say to him?

    Pumbaa: I don't know.

Timon: As you were saying it, I thought, "This won't end well" you just start laughing.

    Pumbaa: You laughed too.

Timon: I did not. I would never.

    Pumbaa: Man, I blew it.

  • Simba: Timon, Pumbaa, I want you to meet my best friend, Nala.

Timon: Best friend? Well, that hurts.

Simba: Nala, you're going to love it here. This place is amazing. It's everything you could ever want.

Nala: Simba, we need to leave. Scar has taken over with the hyenas. You have to take your place as king.

    Timon: King? Simba?

Pumbaa: We kneel before you as humble servants.

    [They both laugh]

    Simba: Pumbaa, relax. She's wrong.

Timon: Lady, you've got your lions crossed

    Pumbaa: Nice.

Nala: Seeing you again, you don't know what this will mean everyone. What this means to me. You have to come home

Simba: This is my home. Please stay. This place is incredible. I know you'll love it.

    Nala: I can't.

  • Simba: Who are you?

Rafiki: I know exactly who I am. The question is, who are you?

Simba: I'm nobody. So leave me alone, alright?

Rafiki: Everybody is somebody. Even a nobody.

Simba: Yeah, I think you're confused.

Rafiki: I am confused? You don't even know who you are.

Simba: Oh? And I suppose you do?

Rafiki: I held the son of Mufasa.

    Simba: You knew my father?

Rafiki: Correction, I know you're father.

Simba: He died a long time ago.

Rafiki: He's alive. And I can take you to him. Follow me. I will show you! Your father is waiting.

[Simba just sees his reflection in the water]

    Rafiki: Do you see him?

    Simba: I don't see anything.

    Rafiki: Look closer.

[Simba looks closer at his reflection and sees his father]

Rafiki: You see, he lives in you.
