TV Sports Announcer: [announcing basketball game on TV] 3 seconds left. The shot is up...
TV Narrator: [Peyton switches channel] Welcome to the magical world of ponies!
-
[repeated lines]
Peyton Kelly: Stupid is a mean word.
Kyle Cooper: No it isn't.
Peyton Kelly: Yes it is.
Kyle Cooper: No it isn't.
Peyton Kelly: Yes it is.
-
Joe Kingman: You need to be a mom to do this stuff.
Monique Vasquez: I don't know about that. True mothers are smarter, kinder, and better at just about everything.
-
Monique Vasquez: Fathers are the ones that pick you up and give you the courage to do stuff you never thought you could.
-
Peyton Kelly: My mommy says Fanny's Burgers make kids fat and give you gas.
-
Joe Kingman: Bostun Webels, experience the heat. Buston Webels, catch the magik. Buston Webels, catch... who wites this?
-
Karen Kelly: Please tell me that Peyton's all right.
Joe Kingman: She's gonna be...
[he turns around seeing that Karen showed up]
Monique Vasquez: She's going to be fine. The doctor said that she's going to be fine.
Karen Kelly: You're lucky I haven't called the police.
Joe Kingman: Karen?
Karen Kelly: I got home early and I see you and Peyton. Your face is plastered on the front of every magazine. I called Peyton hundred times yesterday. She didn't answer. I flew out here, got off the plane. And I see all of this on the news.
Joe Kingman: Karen?
Karen Kelly: Is that all you can say for yourself is Karen?
Joe Kingman: I-I thought you were dead.
Karen Kelly: I can assure you I'm not dead. How did you find her?
Joe Kingman: I didn't. She found me. Wait a minute. Is Peyton's mom still in Africa?
Karen Kelly: She didn't tell you, did she? Joe. Sara died in a car accident 6 months ago.
-
Monique Vasquez: [to Joe] Ballerinas can jump just as high as you but when they come down they come down in plies, and then they stand pointe, and they stand like that for hours. If ballet was easy, it would be called football.
-
Karen Kelly: How are things going there?
Peyton Kelly: Terrific, the food's not all that great, but my room is huge.
-
Joe Kingman: What did you put in those cookies?
Peyton Kelly: Um, milk, flour, eggs, cinnamon.
Joe Kingman: Cinammon? I'm allergic to cinnamon!
Peyton Kelly: I'm sorry.
Joe Kingman: You're sowry? I'm talking like t'his and all you can say is you're sowry?
Peyton Kelly: I'm allergic to nuts.
-
Joe Kingman: I have an answer to your question, P. Win or lose today, you're the best thing that's ever happened to me.
-
[after Joe discovers he has a daughter]
Stella Peck: So there's no possible chance she's yours?
Joe Kingman: No! I mean, Sarah and I were seperated for a long time. The last time I saw her, she came over to get her things and...
[thinks for a few moments]
Joe Kingman: ... whose hungry? I'm hungry.
-
Stella Peck: How long has it been since you ate one of your own Fanny's burgers?
[takes a bite]
Stella Peck: Chew long I'd say.
-
Joe Kingman: Then you get inside people's minds, and you drive them crazy, just like her!
Peyton Kelly: Well at least I got a mind, because if I didn't, I'd be just like you!
-
Joe Kingman: You don't get abs like these eating peanut butter patties.
-
Joe Kingman: My dad never let me have sugar.
Peyton Kelly: Is that why you never smile?
-
Travis Sanders: Is Spike wearing a tutu?
-
Peyton Kelly: [to Joe] My name is Peyton. I'm your daughter.
-
Peyton Kelly: My mom says that she fell in love with you because you played guitar and you sounded just like Elvis.
Joe Kingman: Really?
Joe Kingman: [in Elvis voice] Well, what do you think?
Peyton Kelly: I think she was tone deaf, and you sound more like a wounded moose than the King.
Joe Kingman: Ohh, a wounded moose?
-
Joe Kingman: You Bedazzled my football?
-
Tatianna: Is your coat... Bedazzled?
Joe Kingman: Peyton. Wait a minute.
[turns to see the back of his coat]
Joe Kingman: I'm still Joe. Still the King.
-
Joe Kingman: Well, who are you here with?
Peyton Kelly: My father.
Joe Kingman: Well you better go get him, because I'm sure he's looking for you.
Peyton Kelly: He's not looking for me.
Joe Kingman: How do you know?
Peyton Kelly: Because he's looking *at* me.
Joe Kingman: What?
Peyton Kelly: Hi, we've never met before, you were married to my mom, Sara. Sara Kelly. My name is Peyton. I'm your daughter.
-
Karen Kelly: [During a group hug] Joe...
Peyton Kelly: Daddy...
Karen Kelly, Peyton Kelly: Can't breathe.
Joe Kingman: Me neither.
[They let go of each other]
-
Samuel Blake, Jr.: He's coming back out, right? You know how important this deal is.
Stella Peck: Sam, baby. Not to worry. Our Joe's not a quitter.
[lets out a fart after eating a Fanny Burger]
Stella Peck: Go, Boston.
-
Joe Kingman: You know what? It's all coming back to me. Of course. All the talking, and the arguing and the complaining! And you know what? You're just like her!
Peyton Kelly: Oh yeah?
Joe Kingman: Yeah. You think you're right about everything, just like her?
Peyton Kelly: What else?
Joe Kingman: You scrunch your nose when you get angry, just like her!
Peyton Kelly: Keep it coming!
Joe Kingman: You're always working me with those big brown eyes... Well actually it's really cute, but it doesn't matter. Because it's just like her!
Peyton Kelly: Is that all you got?
Joe Kingman: And then you get inside of people's minds and drive them crazy, just like her!
Peyton Kelly: Well at least I got a mind, because if I didn't I'd be JUST LIKE YOU!
Joe Kingman: Well I'm lucky. Because as far as I'm concerned, you are NOTHING like me!
Peyton Kelly: Good, because I am sick of it here!
Joe Kingman: Well what do you want from me?
Peyton Kelly: AAH!
Joe Kingman: Don't turn your back on me young lady! Tell me what you want!
Peyton Kelly: MY MOM!
-
Peyton Kelly: Hey, Joe. You got money on New York or something?
Joe Kingman: [Chuckles] Peyton?
[Groans]
Joe Kingman: Come here. Please tell me you're not on the lam again.
Karen Kelly: No, this time she brought the warden with her.
Joe Kingman: What are you guys doing here?
Peyton Kelly: I called an audible. See, I thought you'd be better of without me. But judging by the butt-whupping you got out there, I guess I was wrong. I love you, Daddy. I want to come home.
Joe Kingman: I love you too, Peyton. I love you so much.
-
Karen Kelly: Are you saying you want Peyton to live here with you?
Joe Kingman: Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.
Karen Kelly: You haven't even been in her life.
Joe Kingman: That's not my fault. I didn't even know she existed! And we've come such a long way in a short time.
Karen Kelly: What? You mean since a month ago when you left her in a bar?
Joe Kingman: I'm not the same man that I was.
Karen Kelly: Or an hour ago when she almost died on your watch? This is not about you. This is about Peyton, what's best for her. And she needs to be in a stable home with someone who's known her her whole life.
Joe Kingman: Peyton needs her father. She needs me.
-
Karen Kelly: That's not your decision to make. Sara appointed me her guardian.
Joe Kingman: I missed 8 years of Peyton's life. And I'm not gonna miss any more. And I will fight for this.
Karen Kelly: Oh, that would be a great thing to put her through, don't you think? Do you have any idea how to take care of a child?
Joe Kingman: I've been doing it for a month now!
Karen Kelly: And look where we're standing, Joe.
-
Joe Kingman: Hey, P, you're awake. How you feeling?
Peyton Kelly: I'm okay. I want to go home.
Joe Kingman: Okay. No problem. Doctor said you could come home tomorrow. Then we can go home.
Peyton Kelly: I want to go home now with Aunt Karen.
Joe Kingman: P, if it's... if it's what I said at the restaurant, honey, I didn't mean that.
Peyton Kelly: I just want to go home with Aunt Karen. I never should've come here.
-
Stuart Scott: Blessed with crazy strength and ridiculous agility...
Joe Kingman: Ridiculous.
Stuart Scott: Joe Kingman could have succeeded on talent alone. But what really sets this future hall-of-famer apart is his passion for the game. And no one sums it up better than Joe himself.
Joe Kingman: [on TV] Wait a minute, that's not what I said.
[camera points to Joe. To Spike]
Joe Kingman: Listen, listen. What I said was this.
[slightly in unison]
Joe Kingman: Life holds many pleasures for me. But... nothing... nothing beats the thrill of playing on that field every Sunday. Football is my life. Beyond the field, nothing else matters.
[to Spike]
Joe Kingman: Watch this.
[camera points back to Joe on TV]
Joe Kingman: Nothing.
Stuart Scott: If nothing else really matters, why does the championship ring elude Kingman? Some of the experts say it's because he's too selfish. I mean think about it...
[Joe picks up the remote and fast forwards the video. He mocks]
Joe Kingman: How does that sound, Stuey?
Stuart Scott: Joe, you're a 30-something now, not a 20-something. The clock is ticking, Joe. Ticking on your career.
-
Joe Kingman: Now, about your mom.
Peyton Kelly: I told you, it was last-minute.
Joe Kingman: I just can't believe that the Sara I knew would just let her daughter show up at my doorstep alone.
[pause]
Joe Kingman: I know what happened.
Peyton Kelly: You do?
Joe Kingman: Yeah? She's gained a lot of weight.
Peyton Kelly: No.
Joe Kingman: What's she pushing now? About 180? Deuce?
-
Stella Peck: Of course. It'll be a huge distraction. And ugly. Child custody fights always are. Joe will be dragged through the mud. His endorsements torpedoed. He's worked too hard to have it end like this. I just don't see him getting through this. My hard work goes down the drain. This is exactly the sort of thing that could end his career.
-
[first lines]
Joe Kingman: [Joe wakes] All right, all right. All right, all right.
