Hajime Saito: I'll kill you now.
Kenshin Himura: "I'll kill you now"? That's my line.
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): You guys are so weak. If I were to fight you I'd be oppressing the weak. Here, I'll fight you with one hand.
-
[Kaoru is meeting Megumi for the first time]
Kaoru Kamiya: How're you supposed to be related to our Kenshin?
Megumi Takani: Oh! Well, Ken-san is a VERY important person who's going to protect me. How are YOU related to him?
Kaoru Kamiya: Me? I'm...
Megumi Takani: I'm sure you couldn't be his lover. I mean, such a sweaty little girl can't be what Ken-san looks for in a woman.
Kaoru Kamiya: WELL, EXCUSE ME FOR SWEATING!
-
Soujiro: The strong survive. The weak die. But... is it really that bad to be weak?
-
Seijûrô Hiko: Boy, your name?
Kenshin Himura: Shinta.
Seijûrô Hiko: Not quite appropriate for a warrior. You shall be known as Kenshin from now on.
Kenshin Himura: Ken-shin?
-
Hajime Saito: The Shinsen group is still the Shinsen group. A wolf is still a wolf. Nothing's change. And no matter what, a slasher will always be... a slasher. That's true, Batusai
-
Makoto Shishio: this is the right time for revolution and I will rule Japan! I will put him in his rightful place, as the greatest power in the world!
Kenshin Himura: the revolution will take away the blood of the innocent. They are the weak who wants nothing but to live in peace!
Makoto Shishio: The weak that you are talking about are the sheeps that need my guidance.
Kenshin Himura: All you want is to slaughter the innocent. I wont allow you to rule Japan! Draw your sword... and fight!
-
Makoto Shishio: [Trying to prove to his assistant that hell exists] Shishio : Himura has experienced fighting with Aoshi and it's hell for him. Okina's parents were killed in front of his eyes and it was hell. I was burned, every inch of my body in pain shouting for death, and it's hell. Now, do you think that hell is not here on earth? If hell is not here, then why the hell should I keep you alive?
-
Kenshin Himura: We once fought together for an ideal with our swords. It wasn't for power or for glory, but to create a peaceful world where people could live without fear. And, if you should forget about that, then what did we fight the revolution for?
-
Kenshin Himura: New eras don't come about because of swords, they're created by the people who wield them.
-
Kenshin Himura: Shishio's logic dictates that the winner of a battle, in other words, the strong, is always correct, that it does. If the truth could be discovered by winning one or two battles, then we'd all go through life without ever being wrong. A person's life isn't so simple a matter, that it isn't. The true answer is something you find out yourself by how you live your life from this day forward, that it is.
-
Kenshin Himura: I thought I made it clear, I have no desire to take anyone's life, no matter what the reason. And also, I'm sure I'm not the devil!
-
Kaoru Kamiya: Ugly? I'll have you know they call me The Rose of Martial Arts around here!
-
Sanosuke Sagara: I wouldn't mind picking a fight for a change. Usually, I don't have any choice about who I fight with, but I can't stand watching people abuse those weaker than them. Something about that sort of bugs me. Especially when it's a bunch of hypocrites talking about the virtues of freedom and justice for all. That really pisses me off.
-
Sanosuke Sagara: Hey, I'll have you know that I almost really did kick the bucket during that training, so don't you dare sum it all up in one word, even if it is a nice one like "potential.
-
Sanosuke Sagara: Don't get me wrong, Kenshin, that doesn't mean I can let you die here. Yahiko and the Missie really need you around. I mean, it's not just those two. There are a lot of people in Japan right now who need a guy like you around. And, I don't care if people call me a liar or a cheater, if I think things aren't going well, I'll use the strongest Futae no Kiwami I've got and I'm gonna help you! As long as there are people who need you, I, Sanosuke, will risk my life and limb to make sure you don't die!
-
Sanosuke Sagara: Love and selfishness kinda go hand in hand, don't they?
-
Sanosuke Sagara: I don't give a damn about my life. But, if I have to die, I sure ain't going alone! I'll be dragging you all the way down to hell with me!
-
Megumi Takani: I think it's you who shouldn't take me so lightly! Listen to me, Kaoru. I became a doctor to help as many people as possible to atone for the sins I've committed. This is the path I chose to live and Sir Ken was the person who showed me this path I've chosen to follow. It's all because of what he said to me. So, no matter what the future holds in store for me and even if Sir Ken is no longer with us, I plan to walk the path of medicine. I'm doing everything I possibly can to deal others and that's how much I truly care about Kenshin. How dare you mock my feelings when you're doing nothing but acting like a brat! First, you kick and holler and now you turn on the tears? You just want everyone to feel sorry for you.
-
Hajime Saitoh: A wolf will always be a wolf, the Shinsengumi will always be the Shinsengumi, and a manslayer will always be a manslayer, isn't that right, Battousai?
-
Hajime Saitoh: How's that old saying go? The one about sneezes? If sneezing three times means someone doesn't like me, I think I'll survive.
-
Hajime Saitoh: You train a dog with food. You can buy a person with money. But there isn't a man alive able to influence the Wolf of Mibu.
-
Hajime Saitoh: The mongrel dog who tucks its tail between its legs and runs away from battle without fighting should not bark!
-
Misao Makimachi: Don't just stand there and talk to me like you know it all! You're a big knucklehead! You're telling me to forget Lord Aoshi? The reason I'm searching for him is because there is no way I can forget about him! How is forgetting about the one person I care about the most in the entire world suppose to ever make me happy?
-
Misao Makimachi: I, Misao Makimachi, see no compelling reason to give villians like you my name!
-
Misao Makimachi: Come on, Himura, why are you trying to push us away? Is it because we found out you're battousai the manslayer? That doesn't matter at all! I don't care what you were! When we first met, I met you as a wanderer, not as a manslayer!
-
Soujiro Seta: In the end, only the fittest survive in this world. If you're strong you live, if you're weak you die.
-
Soujiro Seta: Not killing, protecting the weak, everything you're saying is wrong! If it was true, back then wouldn't you have done something to protect me from everything that happened? If what you've been saying truly is correct then why didn't you protect me? Nobody helped me! Back then, you didn't protect me!
-
Soujiro Seta: I know of two men who were walking down the same path at the same point in the past and it took that long for them to reach opposite truths. So, I was thinking I might be able to find my own truth if I spend ten years wandering.
-
Seijuro Hiko: Because you've slain so many people, you don't even value your own life. That's what allows the manslayer's heart that lies deep within your true heart to take over your soul. Even if you use the power of that manslayer for a self-sacrificing purpose such as protecting those you love or the weak, it's still only one tiny pebble in the never-ending river of time. Live on, Kenshin. That way you'll be able to use the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki as you please and you'll never again lose to the manslayer within you.
-
Seijuro Hiko: Before we begin there's one thing I need to say. If you do manage to learn this final technique, you will, in effect, gain a strength that will equal my own. But, don't let it go to your head! Times have changed and you can no longer afford to put everything on your own shoulders and be the only sacrifice. Even the happiness of one person is complicated these days. If you should fall as a sacrifice, the young lady who came to Kyoto with the one wish of seeing you will, without a doubt, be devastated by that loss. Think about it! No matter how powerful you become, you're still just a human being. Do not ever try to become something more than that.
-
Seijuro Hiko: He is pure of heart - but so are fools.
-
Jinei Udo: Within every fiber of your being you are truly a manslayer.
-
Soujiro Seta: The strong shall live and the weak shall die. That's the natural order of things. I can't understand why you have to help the weak, weak people are irrelevant. Shishio made me realize that the strong should live. He taught me to kill the weak and be aware of the strong people. Shishio gave me a sword, and if not for that sword I wouldn't be alive today. He also made me realize that I don't have a choice. If I don't kill them, they'll kill me. But the truth is, I never really wanted to kill anybody.
-
Seijuro Hiko: [at Tomoe's grave] I'm surprised to see you here, Kenshin. What made you visit this grave after 10 years? And you also bought some flowers, they're beautiful
Kenshin Himura: These flowers are beautiful now but eventually they'll wither and turn into dust, like the friend beneath them.
Seijuro Hiko: All our lives have a beginning and an end. No-one can change that.
-
Kenshin Himura: If you require an opponent, I will fight you. If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack me.
-
Kaoru Kamiya: [to Yahiko and Sanosuke, before she and Megumi go to the hot springs] Hey, you guys, don't even think about peeping on us!
Sanosuke Sagara, Yahiko Myojin: Trust us, we won't.
Yahiko Myojin: Did you see anyone worth peeping at around here?
[Kaoru clocks him]
Kaoru Kamiya: [to Megumi, brightly] Come on, lets go!
Sanosuke Sagara: [pushing back the branches of a bush] Even though we said we wouldn't...
Yahiko Myojin: [pushing back the other side of the bush] ... We'll do it because she said not to.
[the boys are met with a bucket of water in their faces]
Kaoru Kamiya: [laughing] Too easy! You idiots, you expect that with all these boys around we'd *actually* bathe naked?
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): [about Kenshin] Give him a sword and he's unstoppable, but give him a bail of rice and he's just an ordinary guy.
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): [watching Kenshin buy radishes] No matter how you look at him, it's still hard to believe he's the legendary manslayer...
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): [about the fake Batousai] He has more nerve than the real Batousai...
-
Hajime Saitoh: The only thing I care about is 'ak sok zan' - slay evil immediately.
-
Kenshin Himura: Sano hates the Meji government from the bottom of his heart, that he does.
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): Got a problem with that?
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): [after being punched straight in the head with a dagger and being completely unharmed] Is that the best you can do? Even with a dagger? Man, I sure picked a boring fight...
-
Kenshin Himura: [about the man who asked him to go to Kyoto with questionable intentions] There's one thing I'm sure of: if he was acting purely out of self interest Saitoh would have killed him long ago. Even in the Meji era, he's still a Wolf of Nebu.
-
Kenshin Himura: [as Battousai, after being asked to speak alone] I'm not the only one involved in this anymore.
[punches himself in the face, then as Kenshin]
Kenshin Himura: I'm not the only one involved in this anymore, that I'm not.
-
Hajime Saitoh: Totsu can look after the boy for us.
Kenshin Himura: Who's Totsu?
Hajime Saitoh: My wife...
Kenshin Himura: [shocked] You're married, Saitoh! I had no idea!
Hajime Saitoh: Anyway, she can handle him. She's a very patient woman.
Misao Makimachi: She'd have to be to put up with him.
Kenshin Himura: Yeah, she must be like a female Buddha...
-
Misao Makimachi: [punches Kenshin] How do you like that!
Kenshin Himura: [confused] How do I like what?
Misao Makimachi: Unbelievable, my attacks aren't working on him. He must be some kind of monster.
Kenshin Himura: You're just too light. Even if you did connect it wouldn't do anything.
-
Kenshin Himura: [about the guy he fought in the Revolution who tried to kill him again last week] We have some things in common, but I wouldn't call him a friend...
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): Hey, Kenshin, what are you doing?
Kenshin Himura: Oh, I was just rummaging.
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): Rummaging, uh? What's in the box? Is it food?
Kenshin Himura: No, actually it's...
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): Never mind, don't care.
Kenshin Himura: Uh, ok.
[sighs]
Kenshin Himura: That's just like Sano...
-
Kenshin Himura: [both sitting in silence staring at a wall] Aoshi?
Aoshi Shinomori: Yes?
Kenshin Himura: You find this enjoyable, do you?
Aoshi Shinomori: Yes.
-
Aoshi Shinomori: [shocked] What in the world are you doing, Battousai?
Kenshin Himura: The laundry. Isn't it obvious?
Aoshi Shinomori: Do you... do this sort of thing often?
Kenshin Himura: It's part of my daily routine, on days when it's not raining.
Aoshi Shinomori: Your routine?
Kenshin Himura: Yeah, I'm just a wanderer now, so I do what I can to help out. I actually find it rather enjoyable.
-
Kenshin Himura: [when everyone else has gone shopping] Well, nothing to do now except wait for them to come back. Anyway, this is the perfect time to fulfill that promise we made.
Aoshi Shinomori: Promise?
Kenshin Himura: Yeah, when we were in Kyoto we promised to have tea together sometime.
Aoshi Shinomori: Ah, yes.
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): [about the bombs he just used to blow up a battleship] I can't believe Katsu let me hang onto something so dangerous! There is no way those are for self defense!
[watches the battleship burn]
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): It is a nice parting gift, though...
-
Kenshin Himura: [to Saitoh] Let's go!
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): [steps into the room and punches Kenshin] And just where the hell do you think you're going without me?
Kenshin Himura: [surprised] Sano, what are you doing in Kyoto?
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): I followed you! And that's what you get for leaving without even saying goodbye!
Kenshin Himura: You came all this way just to punch me?
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): No, you idiot! I came to help you stop Makoto Shishio!
-
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): [to Saitoh] Hey, if you don't let me out of this jail cell, I'll let myself out!
-
Kenshin Himura: Seijuro Hiko the thirteenth. Accomplished swordsman and Master of the Hiten Misturugi Style, but something is just off about his personality... bitter...
Seijûrô Hiko: Hey!
Kenshin Himura: ...lacking in generosity...
Seijûrô Hiko: Hey!
Kenshin Himura: ...and remembers more embarrassing stuff about people than the actual people themselves!
Seijûrô Hiko: HEY!
-
Katsu: So, you're going to Kyoto too, then?
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): Yeah.
Katsu: Here, take these with you as a parting gift.
Sanosuke Sagara (Zanza): More bombs? I thought you stopped making these things.
Katsu: These are just for self defense.
-
Seijûrô Hiko: [to Kenshin] Why can't you bring me a souvenir, like a normal person, instead of all the trouble you usually bring with you?
