Lisa Fredericks: [amused] Where are you usually locked up?

Barry Thomas: Oh, I'm just an experiment gone horribly awry in the Personnel Department.

Lisa Fredericks: I see. I'm Lisa Fredericks.

    Barry Thomas: I'm Barry Thomas.

Lisa Fredericks: [not sure how to take him] What is it that you do?

Barry Thomas: Oh, nothing. I just sort of boost morale in between threats of being fired.

Lisa Fredericks: Ah. Well, you seem to have a mind. That doesn't usually fit in this system. Nice to meet you.

    [She turns away dismissively]

  • [Barry and Howard watch Lisa across the lunchroom after Barry's first disastrous attempt to meet her]

Barry Thomas: I'm sorry about the way that I came at you this morning. It must have been a bit of a shock, huh?

Lisa Fredericks: [chilly] Are you assuming this morning's encounter has made us friends and we're now going to have a conversation?

Barry Thomas: No! No, no, no, no, no, God no! That's the last thing on my mind!

    Lisa Fredericks: Good.

    [to the food server]

Lisa Fredericks: Can I have some string beans and rice, please, Rico?

Barry Thomas: I just hate meeting new, and interesting, and attractive people. Don't you even think of starting up a conversation with *me*! Can I please have some macaroni?

I made a fool out of myself, but I thought, "Hey, I'll, I'll have another chance to speak to you some day, right?" But then you... well.

    Lisa Fredericks: We spoke?

Barry Thomas: Yeah! Yeah, we did.

Lisa Fredericks: [shy] How was I?

Barry Thomas: You were great. You were very nice. You threw me out of your office.

Lisa Fredericks: [she smiles and takes a step closer to him] I'm sorry. I guess I was having a bad day.

Barry Thomas: That next morning, when I saw you alive, I realized I had a second chance. A chance to save you...

Barry Thomas: Oh my God. It's 12:00.

Lisa Fredericks: No! We've got to do something!

Barry Thomas: There's no time. Quick, tell me what your favorite color is.

    Lisa Fredericks: What?

Lisa Fredericks: Just, what's your favorite color?

    Lisa Fredericks: Green.

Barry Thomas: [with increasing urgency] Ah, your favorite food!

Barry Thomas: Oh, Anne, don't get your panties in a bunch. If you just left us alone, the work could get done. But no, you're so damn invasive that no one can concentrate around here. So just stop assuming that we're all idiots, and don't you judge people by how cute they are!

[Anne Jackson is taken aback. Howard raises his head high enough over the cubicle wall that we can see by his expression that he's impressed]

Anne Jackson: Well. This is what I get for covering you for all these years.

Barry Thomas: [with an evil whisper] Thank you.

Anne Jackson: Well, it might be time to take a look into your performance record!

Barry Thomas: [with an evil grin] You do that.

Barry Thomas: Look. Over there. See that? He's, he's about to light his cigarette. He's met you in the hallway these past few mornings, but today he can't, because you're here with me. What we have to do is keep Denk from finding out about the computer disk. So, today, I'll take all the information, all right?

Lisa Fredericks: [whispering] I can't just accept this.

Barry Thomas: [taking her arms, making her look at his honest expression] The epitaph on your canary's grave you made when you were nine years old was on a paper plate, and it said: Fly to Heaven.
