I think the Taiwanese translation title "The Pastor's Last Temptation" is quite appropriate. The self-consciousness deviates from the existing track, and the journey toward the unknown danger begins. The whole back and forth discussion is not a problem. It depends on the topic. Religious issues are intertwined with environmental issues, and then the interests of all human beings are involved. If it is still just verbal, it seems very fragile.

One of the funniest films NYFF has seen so far, with an outstanding style. Personally, I think environmental protection is only one of the materials and not the theme... The end breaks the rules...

First Reformed quotes

  • Reverend Joel Jeffers: The creation waits in eager expectation of liberation from bondage. That's Romans 8:23. You understand?

Reverend Ernst Toller: So, we should pollute so God can restore? We should sin so God can forgive?

  • Reverend Ernst Toller: Well, somebody has to do something! It's the Earth that hangs in the balance.

Reverend Joel Jeffers: Well what if this is His plan? What if we just can't see it?

Reverend Ernst Toller: You think God wants to destroy his creation?

Reverend Joel Jeffers: He did once. For 40 days and 40 nights.
