Good themes, first-class actors, second-class directors, third-class scripts

The only bright spot of the film is the subject matter. Shanghai in the 1930s and 1940s has always been something I am very interested in learning about.
There are very few good films that can truly show the history of Shanghai at that time. The Countess is pretty good in that regard. It may be comparable to Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun".
The scenes in the film deliberately depict the luxury and openness of Shanghai in the 1930s. It shows the living conditions and social status of...

      two or three o'clock

There is a good intention. The boy who used to play tennis and ballroom dancing with Sophie met her on the dance floor. That memory was just a flash, and the elegant music behind it was the symbol of their era - it's gone, it's not what it used to be, it's a bit red mansion The artistic conception that Cao Yin didn't have time to write in the second half. This one is well-intentioned. Another is that when the French consulate met the old princess and the old couple, they were still respectful,...

Love in difficult times this time in Shanghai, China in the 20s and 30s, two westerners and

Possibly because of the oriental background and historical reasons, the love between the hero and heroine has an oriental subtlety and forbearance. The soundtrack and songs in the film include a male protagonist listening to a song on the radio, Mr. Wu. The heroine is rational, she knows that her time is gone forever, but her family still fantasizes about returning to the luxury of the past. cruel. Like the heroine's daughter watching the mirage in the kaleidoscope, and then, just like that,...

      betrayal of kinship

Yesterday, I went back home and repaired it, but my room is still the same. When I saw the movie that my mother ordered for me on the table, I suddenly realized that I should make some time for my hobbies, do nothing every day, watch movies, thank you for the movie review, and share your feelings.

Because reading an article on the movie started Ralph Fiennes's journey ~
people who seem a little strange at first glance, are both good and evil. Ralph's deep eyes have been imprinted...

      The dust settles

He is the blind American diplomat, Jackson; she is the declining Russian noble countess, Sophia. In the bustling and noisy international city of Shanghai, James Ivory always likes to tell us a story slowly in the background of such a heavy vicissitudes of life.
He always likes to tell stories like this, there are not too many noisy lines, only performances directed at the inner actors, like the resentful eyes of Helena Bonham Carter in "The Room with a View", like Ralph • Fiennes stumbled...

The story is told very lightly. There are two situations in which the passage of time will not feel: one is too exciting, and the other is too tasteless. The style of old Shanghai is really worth...

When the director chose a Chinese actor, the first thing he thought of was the translator Ying Ruocheng . When he called Ying’s house, his son Da Ying picked it up. • Katya: If Mama didn't have to go out to work, then you would have to go. Then *who* would be the wicked one?

    • Taxi Dance Hall Manager: What are you doing? Dancing with a blind man! You will disturb the other guests.

Todd Jackson: You try and stop us.

      [says something in Chinese]

Taxi Dance Hall Manager: You will disturb the other guests.

Sofia: If you have any objections, kindly go to hell.

    • Todd Jackson: She is the countess Sofia Alexeyevna Belinskaya. She has everything that I wanted for this place. She has the allure, the tragedy, the weariness. She knows that history has no place for her kind anymore. She is perfect. My centre piece.
