"The Wedding Banquet", a same-sex movie from the end of the last century, is revisited today. I think Wei Tong is lucky, a considerate Gao mother, and a Gao father who I don't know how to describe (such a father is really not for everyone of the same sex, and Gao's mother is also). There are no scenes of family crying and scuffles in the film, and it progresses slowly with a steady tune, and everything seems to be moving forward as expected. I think all same-sex people hope...

"I didn't get married to explain what you got married." "I thought Chinese people were all submissive, silent and math geniuses. You are seeing the result of five thousand years of sexual repression." "Gao Weitong came over. ... Gao Weitong, I'm sorry, this isn't a happy event in Chen's house. It's upstairs in the phoenix hall in Chen's house." "Dude, you really know what room number to choose. It's not good to pick 1069, Ronaldinho, aren't you drunk? Drunk me. Even if you...

A Feminist View of the Wedding Banquet
I just happened to be reading "Misogyny" recently, so I unknowingly looked at this article from a feminist perspective.
As a film from more than 20 years ago, the traditional family described by Ang Lee has been different from the modern family in my eyes, so can it be understood that the status of women in the family and in society has risen?

I read it on Sunday and dragged it off to write it now. Why do I feel so busy these days? But it also feels like I haven't hurry up enough... The wedding banquet, the ending is beautiful, it's a compromise from everyone. Movies that actually exist in reality are talking about, and ideal situations that don't exist in reality are also covered in movies. The predicament in Pushing Hands and the Wedding Banquet finally ends with a harmonious ending, which is an idealized and...

Cross-cultural communication from the wedding banquet
Abstract: The movie "The Wedding Banquet" tells the story of Gao Weitong, a Chinese living in the United States, and his gay and tenant Weiwei. The story reflects the friction and collision of different family concepts and cross-cultural exchanges between China and the West. This article selects four specific clips from the film, and combines the theoretical content of the English cross-cultural communication curriculum to compare and explain the specific differences between Chinese and...

I don't deny Ang Lee's insight into the sophistication of human relationships, but the problem with his Chinese lines seems to have always existed. And the acting of the heroine is really too substandard, the whole film seems to be dubbing the dubbing film, only when speaking Shanghai dialect is more comfortable (maybe because I don't understand it). The first half has been troubled by the actors' acting skills. There is no spark of love between the two male protagonists. The female...

The collision of the West and the East, the collision of straight men and the same sex, the collision of family and love, Li An pointed out the five thousand years of Chinese people's sexual desire and this point is enough for me to laugh for a long time, "Wei Tong, how can you choose the number 1069 like...

It's very interesting, as well as the characterization of "Food Men and Women", the cultural conflict is not very obvious. The disadvantage is that the lines are not real enough, like a drama. Gao Jin Sumei's life trajectory is...

This is more than three notches higher than pushers. I'm complaining that there is no western theme music in the push hands, and there is a Chinese and Western carnival at the end of the wedding banquet. Li An was indeed a Confucian leader, and finally moved towards unity, and mixed with his tolerant father. Li An's face at the banquet was too...
Wai-Tung Gao: I don't know, we should have moved you out.
Simon: I'll survive.
Wai-Tung Gao: Not if Wei Wei keeps cooking.
Justice of the Peace: Okay, now you: "I, Wee-Wee..."
Wei-Wei: Wee-Wee.
Justice of the Peace: "... take you, Wai Tung..."
Wei-Wei: Wee-Wee.
Justice of the Peace: Okay. "To be my wedded husband... to have and to hold..."
Wei-Wei: Holding to have, husband, mine...
Justice of the Peace: "... for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer..."
Wei-Wei: Better and richer, no poorer.
Justice of the Peace: "... in sickness and in health, till death do us part."
Wei-Wei: Till sickness and death.
Justice of the Peace: Groovy. Rings.
Mrs. Gao: [about Wei-Wei] What do you think?
Mr. Gao: She'll make a lot of babies.
