      The second half is great

The first half was drowsy, knowing that four people were on the road with explosives. When I saw the explosives slowly flowing through the branches and into the cracks in the stones, my heart was extremely nervous, and the director had a good grasp of the audience's psychology.

There are many unexpected places in this film. I thought Zu was the bravest one, but I didn't expect to be the most cowardly one. I thought the person who blew the rock was going to hang up. While relaxing, the...

Talk about its fly in the ointment

A lot of people say it's a classic. I don't know if it's just because it's black and white, and they give a tribute. I think the story is really good, although it's a bit dull, but it's boring enough to give people a sense of expectation. What is the ending? It's nice to have a strong desire for what it looks like, but it's not a classic, just an excellent story.

Judging from the name, it seems to be about the cost of fear to people. In theory, if we interpret it from the...

      real fear

Absolutely a wonderful piece of thriller! Decades-old films, black and white influences, deceptively simple stories. . None of these can shake the status of the world's greatest suspense thriller. The director's exquisite shots, wonderful detailed action descriptions, psychological descriptions, ingenious use of local shots, etc., really made my heart skip a beat from beginning to end. The last few seconds of the movie won't let you breathe a sigh of relief (the ending is ironic!) It's so...

      for the last second

Let’s start with the narrative structure.

For the last second of suspense, everything has to be done step by step. All the foreshadowing, the shaping of the image, the weaving of the character network... After everything is done, the last-second ending can be established.

This is the driving force of the suspense narrative.

Hitchcock completes his suspense by showing and hiding. Clouzot, on the other hand, relies on the whole narrative. In other words, Clouzot has...

The length of the film is really maddening and outrageous

In view of the uncontrollable irritability and disgust during the entire viewing process, I had to give myself a Samsung to comfort myself.
The background introduction of the first hour is really maddening! ! ! Outrageous! ! ! ! A place that is too poor to die, a group of people who have nothing to do, the plot is completely in the introduction of the characters. The point is black and white. I can see it because my obsessive-compulsive disorder is terminally ill.
      In short, the film...

The first show of this year's Beijing Film Festival, thank you for your recommendation. A slow version of Fury Road, a perfect example of Hitchcock's bomb theory. It's amazing that explosions and thrilling scenes can be photographed so realistically in 1953. Beginning with "Grasshopper on a Rope", even the action scenes have both the real sense of execution and the physical imagination, and the first-class viewing enjoyment. Bringing the moral dilemma difficult for the strongman to the...

    Behind the scenes

When the film was screened in the United States, some so-called "anti-American" scenes were cut, including a passage in the film where the American boss explained the reasons for hiring homeless people as truck drivers, portraying American capitalists as big villains.
Jean Gaben rejected the role eventually played by Charles Vanel because he thought that movie fans would not like him to play a "coward".
After filming the scene of rolling...

    Evaluation action

The scene of "Le Salaire de la Peur" is relatively monotonous, not comparable to the disaster movies of the same period, but the director Henri-Georges Clouzot knows how to involve the audience in the story and completes his own narrative very well. Under the emphasis and indoctrination of Cruzo in the film, the audience will be more concerned about the existence of danger than the protagonist in the film. A car full of explosives that...

    Movie quotes

    • Bill O'Brien: The Hell with the Union! There's plenty of tramps in town, all volunteers. I'm not worried. To get that bonus, they'll carry the entire charge on their backs.

Bradley: You mean you're gonna put those bums to work?

Bill O'Brien: Yes, Mr. Bradley, because those bums don't have any union, nor any families. And if they blow up, nobody'll come around bothering me for any contribution.

    • Dick: When I was a kid, I used to see men go off on this kind of jobs... and not come back. When they did, they were wrecks. Their hair had turned white and their hands were shaking like palsy! You don't know what fear is. But you'll see. It's catching, it's catching like small pox! And once you get it, it's for life! So long, boys, and good luck.

    • Mario: When someone else is driving, I'm scared.
