    The film is adapted from " The Legend of White Snake " , one of the four Chinese folklore   . It was released in China on September 29, 2011 and premiered in Venice on September 2.
    The film became the 2011 Mainland National Day box office champion with a box office of 229 million, and topped the global box office weekly championship with a box office of US$16.89 million in the first week of overseas release, taking the first crown for a Chinese-language film in the global box office market   . And as the only Chinese-language film to be screened at the 68th Venice Film Festival . Won the Best Contribution Award at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain.
