      Joan of Arc

I watched it in a second. Although there is basically no storyline, the director's camera angle and the subtle acting skills of the actors' emotions are still very attractive.

Once religion is exploited, it will become a tool for slaughtering dissidents, which is ironic and paradoxical. The true follower of God will suffer, but she is the truth, she firmly believes that she is the daughter of God, and she will be martyred for the truth.

At the last moment, the aggressive judges...

The religious version of the battleship Potemkin, the French Huang Jiguang, a lot of close-up shots, the rebels are shot from the top, the desperate face raised from the top, the strength is contrasted, there are no fixed-length shots and redundant explanations, only the characters themselves. The editing method expresses the general spatial relationship. The audience only knows that Joan of Arc and the missionaries are in a room, their relationship with the whole space, and the relationship...

      Alone with God

Facing the coercion and temptation of the church, Joan of Arc also succumbed to the mortal flesh, how could she not be afraid of the torture of burning at the stake? However, the faith has not gone away, looking at the crown that is about to be thrown away, Joan of Arc said that she lied and overturned the guilt she confessed: I am still the child of God!

After receiving communion, Joan of Arc went to the stake.

I will accept death with joy, but don't make me suffer too...

Joan of Arc, Joan of Arc

At the beginning of the hacksaw ridge Desmond read: "He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom." At the end his dad said: "I would say anyone is wrong to try to compromise somebody's conviction."

This reminds me of Joan of Arc, which is why I found this excellent film of 28 years.

Joan of Arc could neither read nor count, but she knew all too well what the British meant for her trial. The courtroom scene seemed very casual. The joyful expressions of...

It is worth comparing with Bresson's version, which is also narrated based on the records of the Inquisition, but the difference in film concept and image construction method leads to a huge gap in emotional concentration, but in the end, it uses the power of film to show the power of faith. The levels are the same. Bresson restores objects to materials, transforms space into physical models, and substitutes actions into his own force analysis; while Dreyer treats all images as faces (not...

Watching the 81 minute version. Since its inception, the film has been cut into many versions by different people. Its historical achievements are very prominent, mainly the use of close-up. A century has passed, with no strings attached, just from the point of view of enjoying the film, the works of contemporary Griffith, Keaton, Eisenstein, Lang and others still shine, compared to this film is inferior...

A very superficial understanding is that a religious vindicator made a religious film with a close-up of the character's face as the main lens language. . . Guys who have no faith say they don't eat this set at all. . . But I wonder if this was an experimental film at the time. ....

    Movie plot

After the French national heroine Joan of Arc ( Maria Falconetti ) was betrayed and fell into the hands of the Burgundian rebels, the Catholic Church closely controlled by the English authorities held a trial of Joan in Rouen, France, accusing her of a heresy and a witch . Behind the scenes gags

The film was shot indoors except for an exterior shot on the fire, completely abandoning the war scenes   .
To shoot the film, director Dreyer spent 7 million francs to build a huge medieval castle setting. The outer walls are strong and thick to support the lighting equipment and staff. The inner walls are mounted on rails and can be moved flexibly. Although the castle only appears to blur the background in the film, but Dreyer...

    Creative background

In 1926, Dreyer was invited to France to make a film. He mentioned three subjects of interest: Marie Antoinette, Queen of Louis XVI, Catherine Medici, Queen of Henry II, and Joan of Arc . Finally, he chose to adapt the story of Joan of Arc. In order to devote himself to creation, Delaier's family moved to Paris and began the preliminary data collection for about a year and a half. Since Joan of Arc was chased as a Catholic saint in...

    Evaluation action

The film is the last glorious and classic treasure of silent film, but this does not change the fact that it is an unconventional and atypical film. For 21st century audiences, the silent film itself is already daunting, and the film is so maverick and puzzling. Although if you watch the full movie patiently, the audience may find it has such a moving and beautiful appeal and impact. People have never experienced so many and so close...
