The Painted Veil--When "Cold Mountain" Meets "The Veil"

I watched "The Painted Veil" two days ago, and it's still the kind of cool-toned love that reminds me of Cold Moutain. The background is all war, and it is also a beautiful scenery, but Painted feels closer to Chinese history, and you can better understand every beautiful picture. In the pictures depicting the scenery, "Cold Mountain" outlines the poignant beauty, while "The...

The Painted Veil--A Literary Love Movie

The male protagonist and "The Magician" are the same person-Edward Norton. regular woman vs regular man

There are two things in this film that left a deep impression on me, one is told by a woman, and the other is played by a man. The common point is that they are very routine and are easily overlooked.
Just after escaping the foreign riots, before the relationship between the host and the hostess was restored due to extramarital affairs, they had a dialogue; during the dialogue, the hostess said, man, you know that it is very complicated for you to face bacteria, don't you think? Aren't...

      Missed

"The veil of true love is only lifted once in a lifetime."

The whole film is filled with a faint, hazy, confused, elegant, meaningful, and helpless atmosphere. The picture is beautiful and the story is smooth, but the sublimation and foreshadowing of the emotions seem to be not enough. In fact, it's no wonder that there are so many things to consider in a two-hour movie. And love is such a thing that no matter how many pages it takes, it is difficult to explain clearly....

The novel is actually not that long, and many of the preludes have been chopped up quickly, but it's still so long, and it's still beautiful, which is a bit surprising. The background changed from Hong Kong to Shanghai. The London scene in the film was also shot in Shanghai. The other is Huangyao Town, Zhaoping County, Guangxi. Actually abandoned the last words of "it was the dog who died". The piano is actually Lang Lang. Huang Qiusheng's face is really suitable for going to Hollywood. Xia Yu...

    Behind the scenes gags

Naomi Watts appeared in "The Painted Veil" with brown-black hair. According to reports, Watts's styling was designed entirely based on the description of the heroine in Maugham's original novel. "The Painted Veil" will be another collaboration between Watts and director John Cullen after " We don't live here anymore ".
In 2005, Edward Harrison Norton came to China to film "The Painted Veil". He stayed for more than 3 months in total. He...

The film "The Painted Veil" should be the first Western film about China shot in China in a long time. The crew traveled more than 8,000 kilometers in 10 days, trying to find ancient villages and towns surrounded by mountains and rivers, and also close to modern facilities to provide convenience for the cast and production company. In the end, Guangxi became the best location.

    Movie quotes

    • [opening lines]

      Walter Fane: Hello.

      Kitty Garstin: Hello.

Walter Fane: Say, I was wondering...

      Kitty Garstin: What?

Walter Fane: Sorry. I - I was wondering if you'd like to dance.

      Kitty Garstin: Why not?

    • [Walter and Kitty are out at the Chinese Opera with Charlie and Dorothy Townsend]

Charlie Townsend: Are you enjoying it?

Kitty Fane: I've never seen anything like it.

Charlie Townsend: Every gesture has a meaning. See how she covers her face with the cloth? She is mourning her misfortune.

Kitty Fane: What happened to her?

Charlie Townsend: She was sold into slavery. Condemned to a life of drudgery and despair in a strange land far from home. See the chains? They represent the heavy bondage of her poor, trapped soul from which there is no escape, and so she weeps. She weeps for the lively, vivacious girl she once was, the lonely woman she has become... and most of all... she weeps for the love she'll never feel, for the love she'll never give.

Kitty Fane: Is that really what she's saying?

Charlie Townsend: Actually I haven't a clue what she's on about. I don't speak Chinese.

      [Charlie and Kitty laugh]

    • [Waddington walks in to the Fanes' new house]

Waddington: You must be the doctor's wife. I've just met your husband and invited myself to dinner. I've kept the Watsons' cook for you - she's not bad. She'll have to do for your amah as well. We're a little short-handed here.

[Remembering he hasn't introduced himself yet]

Waddington: Sorry, my name is Waddington.
