      kumquat

The background of the kumquat is the Abkhaz war. Ahmed, a Chechen, Nika, a Georgian, was injured in a local Estonian Ivo. "He killed my friend" "Didn't you also kill two of his friends?" War can give people reasons to kill each other. Some people become mercenaries for money, while others feel that defending the motherland is their duty. Not much better. That's how war is, let two people who don't know each other fight to the death. Margos, an Estonian who grows oranges, was going to return...

      atypical movie

Other netizens have almost learned about the historical background and so on, and I don't need to go to work again, just talk a little about the character's performance and some uncharacteristic elements. The actors acted very well. The actor who plays Ahmed is a pure Georgian, but in the film, he plays a Chechen mercenary in a superb way, whether it is from the Russian accent to the expression of the speech or even the Naimaz. The demeanor is very similar; Nika's slurred speech after a head...

Only when there is peace, when the fruit is ripe, there is the meaning of a good harvest

In his discourse on war and permanent peace, Kant said: "War pushes all human nature to the edge of morality. In war, all laws and morals of human beings are invalid. People have become beasts of the weak and the strong. The war is so cruel, But in the end it is inevitable, it has the meaning of awakening, it uses cruel means to force the awakening of human beings and promote the development of civilization." In this film with only five men, the beautiful Russian countryside is used as a...

Plant a kumquat tree in your heart

"Kumquat" (Taiwan's translation of "When the Oranges Harvest") is a high-quality art film that Taiwanese stills Shi Hui took me to the Huashan Cinema in Taipei (famous for specializing in art films). We didn't make a special trip to watch this film at first, but made a choice because of the various reputations it has gained and the high score of 8.5 on IMDB when we checked the video on the APP. It is said that Brother Hui has always only watched Hollywood movies, and even Japanese and Korean...

      different anti-war movies

I don't know much about the Abkhaz war in 1990, which is the setting of this film, not only because I'm a scumbag of war history, but also because I really don't want to see a war after World War II.
The pacing of the film is so slow, yet gripping, that it suddenly takes a nosedive somewhere.
This film tells the story of four men. Yves is the protagonist of this story. At the beginning, the soldier said that Yves was a brave man, but unfortunately it is too late. This...

A very simple, yet very dramatic, ideological film. Mainly when I thought it was all going to end peacefully, the bombs and battles gave the film a lot of unexpected talk about fate. The process of getting along with the old man and the two young people is actually the way a family gets along, just like the conflict between Chechnya and Estonia is nothing more than a fight between...

    Evaluation action

"Mandariinid" is an excellent film, cleverly conceived, but not dramatized, nor plain. According to the order of encounter, get along, climax, and farewell, it shows the director's skill in the succession and transformation. In the film, the process of the relationship between the two hostile soldiers from the initial physical confrontation to the state of reconciliation conforms to the viewer's yearning for beauty and becomes an...

    Movie quotes

    • Margus: Soon there will be rain.

      Ivo: There will not.

Margus: They will be here soon.

      Ivo: Who?

Margus: The Georgians and Russians. And the tangerines will stay in the trees. You know what this war is called? The war of citrus.

      Ivo: What do you mean?

Margus: It's a war over my tangerines.

Ivo: Be normal. They are fighting for the land.

Margus: For the land where my tangerines grow.

    • Ahmed: I will avenge my friend. This is a holy thing for us old man, you don't understand.

Ivo: Killing a sleeping man, when he is unconscious, is that a sacred thing too? I didn't know.

    • Juhan: I thought it would explode.

Margus: It explodes in the cinema.

Ivo: Ah, the cinema is one big fraud.
