When Uncle Charlie went to Santa Rosa, a sleepy small town, to visit his relatives, the "Master of Suspense" took advantage of others to open the prelude to this suspenseful and tense plot. In this Hitchcock-directed thriller, Joseph Cotten's seemingly amiable murderer who has deceived all his loved ones is understated.
Soon after, however, his niece, "Little Charlie" (Teresa Wright) by the same name, begins to suspect that her uncle has a terrible secret from everyone. Then she was...

The creation of a classic style
Over dinner, Uncle Charlie complimented small town life in Santa Rosa, California, where he said the women were hardworking, not the rich, spoiled women of the city. Then came a vicious monologue:
"These women, these useless women, what do they do? In hotels, in the best hotels, you can see thousands of these women every day. They Eating money, drinking/losing cards, having fun all day and night. Smells like copper and only shows off jewelry. These horrible...fat, old, greedy...

Watched Marnie, The Birds, and today's Shadow of Doubt. The heroine's good figure is impressive, and the starring of Marnie and Birds is simply decency, a model benchmark for elegance.
Another impression is the family, Marnie's mother who supports dating at home, the daughter of the newspaper tycoon in Birds, and the mother's brother and sister who live on the island, and the uncle Charlie in SD. A man's story always seems to begin with his family.
Money is the beginning of...

This film is probably the most unique style in Xi Fatt's film (and his favorite one), except for the last ten minutes, the suspense is almost zero, and most of the time it shows this family with different personalities. The feminist color of the film is also very clear. The main part of the main line is almost always dominated by the niece Charlie. The opening scene expresses her dissatisfaction with the unfair treatment of her mother (housewife) and her beautiful fantasy about her uncle, who...

Isn't this the stupidity of satirizing wives in the cloak of horror gullible and opinionated? Fortunately, the heroine not only resisted her uncle's rhetoric (has something in common with Stoke), but also used her physical strength to defeat Uncle Charlie on the train, hehe. . . . . Tired of not loving,...
Young Charlie: Your picking us as an average family kind of gave me a funny feeling.
Jack Graham: What kind of a funny feeling?
Young Charlie: Oh, I don't know. I guess I don't like to be an average girl in an average family.
Jack Graham: Average families are the best. Look at me. I'm from an average family.
Young Charlie: As average as ours?
Jack Graham: Sure. Besides, I don't think you're average.
Young Charlie: Mothers don't lose daughters. Don't you remember? They gain sons.
Young Charlie: He thought the world was a horrible place. He couldn't have been very happy, ever. He didn't trust people. Seemed to hate them. He hated the whole world. You know, he said people like us had no idea what the world was really like.
