      Bitter violence

I saw this movie in Business English class. Our teacher David is from New Zealand, and he said this movie is about the aboriginal people of New Zealand, Maori. He also said that people consider New Zealand as a beautiful country, but this movie reveals something not so beautiful and we might be shocked by this movie. Indeed, we are shocked, by the domestic violence, which is the brutality of uncivilized people and moreover, the love of a mother, which is also the nature of human, or more...

      Violence! why?

Some films are light, laying down some foreshadowings and then uncovering some mysteries, giving the audience more of a faint sadness; while some films have few skills and few foreshadowings, what gives us is the throbbing of the heart and the intuition anger, sadness, regret. And this movie is exactly the latter.

This story takes place in a Maori family in New Zealand. It seems to have a unique background. In fact, such violence, such a pattern of domestic violence, is common and even...

      The script behind domestic violence

We have a date with the movie Qingdao Station Issue 17. Mei Cen, a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York, brought a New Zealand movie "The Warriors" (also translated as "Samurai of the Sunset"). A story that happened in an ordinary Maori family, the intuitive feeling is that it is full of domestic violence. The film reflects social problems and is a microcosm of the rise and fall of a nation in the family. Although the story takes place in New Zealand, it highlights the general...

      Leave? Or leave?

When I heard the sound of a late-night fight between a young couple upstairs, I tried to suppress the trembling in my heart. Strong love is often accompanied by equally strong possessiveness and compulsion. The subject of domestic violence is not uncommon in today's film and television works. In "Samurai of the Sunset", this kind of violence heats up with various factors such as poverty, alcoholism, and male supremacy. The whole film is full of violence and blood. Love and violence come so...

If my spirit can survive living with you for 18 years, then I can survive anything.

"Our people once were warriors, but not like you, Jake.
They were a people with mana, pride. People with spirit.
If my spirit can survive living with you for 18 years, then I can survive
      anything.
Maybe you taught me that "
This monologue deeply shocked me back then. No matter what kind of hardships you have experienced, if you want to, you can still live with courage. The declaration of this moment, like the dazzling sunshine that penetrates into the dungeon, sweeps...

So pretty! Such a good film was almost ruined by bad Chinese translations and bad posters. The Maori from New Zealand are stubborn and wild, even the air and music are full of manic taste, hard man hard woman, trembling heart, few warm moments are...

    Background creation

Based on the controversial novel by Maori author Allen Dorff, the film reflects the problems of the integration of Maori in New Zealand's modern society. Poverty, unemployment, alcoholism, domestic violence, sexism and the uncertainty and marginalization of young people. The dull music and the drab drab imagery of earth tones imply that all the people in the film—whether because of their circumstances or their own personalities—are...

    • Toot: [Leaning over Grace's open coffin] Friends forever G.

      [Gives Grace a gentle kiss]

Toot: That's all I ever meant, honest. But you're right, I'm just a stupid kid who lives in an old wreck of a car!

Boogie: She loved you Man, she loved you.
