      Jane's Commentary on Africa

The film focuses on the fusion process of characters and the environment. The narrative is scattered and the psychological depiction is advanced layer by layer, avoiding the suffocating depression and painful and inexplicable struggle, but adding a trace of wandering destiny.

The Walter family was forced to come to Kenya due to the status quo. The unique culture of the African continent caused each member of the family to undergo different transformations. In the end, a part of their...

      Fall in love with Africa

This movie, very peaceful, doesn't have any thrilling storyline, it just slowly tells the experience of a Jewish family in World War II, maybe because it's so peaceful, I didn't watch it seriously. But the most impressive point is the emotional line of the hostess. The society hates cheating, and it has strict requirements on families, men and women, and husband and wife, but for such a long life, who can guarantee that they will love each other for a lifetime. This is really hard work. All...

      A story about belonging

Compared with "Love in Africa", I actually prefer another translation of this film: "Where is My Home", although the latter seems a little thin, but it expresses the theme of this film: a sense of belonging! In fact, the protagonist's family has always been looking for a sense of belonging. They were discriminated against by the Nazis when they were in Germany, and they were not adapted to Africa when they first arrived in Africa. They continue to enter new environments and constantly adjust...

      must have a title

Judaism is a nation that has suffered great man-made disasters, although such examples are not uncommon in history.

The Waite family of three were not perfect victims of persecution; they were all adrift and struggling during the years of Nazi domination.

In my opinion, Ye Ti is a relatively clear changer in the film, unlike her husband who has always had ideals for Germany, and is not like her daughter who quickly accepts and integrates into Africa. She was a wealthy wife living...

      write to myself

nice. With the flames of war, what life, what pursuits, what ideals, all return to zero, nothing is left, and survival has become the most important issue. History is nothing but a fossil, the flesh and blood in it is filled with human life. After waiting to the extreme, even the news of the death of a relative is enviable. It doesn't matter if you're not a true Jew, as long as you're a Jew you'll be damned - what the fuck logic!
I like a lot of words, such as: "There is always a person...

If you watch movies in a package, such as the "Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film Award", if you have one a day, you can come across at least one or two Jewish-themed movies a week, sometimes two or three days in a row. They come from different countries, with different stories, different perspectives, and different formats, and they are often well-made and moving—there are very few moving Jewish films. I really envy them for having the right to look back, to dig deep, and to present...

    • Walter Redlich: I'm proud to be an idealist because it shows that I believe in mankind. That may sound naive but every other belief will lead to destruction.

    • Jettel Redlich: Do you love me?

Walter Redlich: If you let me.
