One Night at Maud's: Here's a "Guide to Flirting"
It's so good, I thought it was a boring old movie, but I didn't expect it to be so advanced. In my opinion, the story is very similar to the "Love Is" trilogy, the style is similar, and the Hechongchong Forest has the same feeling. It's a wonderful feeling, like finding a new toy in an old movie.
"I'm not against one-night stands in principle." "I don't like people who don't respect their needs." "Math and philosophy are the same." "I don't...

While reading Rohmer's book and making up the movie here, I found that many things are more attractive in words. For example, the girl in the bakery is more attractive in words. I think the film shows my fantasy. Maud is so pretty and the bulk of the dialogue in the book looks a little more comfortable on film
Naturally, I don't know much about religion and philosophy, so I plan to take a good look at their conversation that night.
Each of Rohmer's six moral stories should...

The first Rohmer to watch. I saw before that Hong Sangxiu has the reputation of Rohmer in Korea, but after watching it, I can see that there are similarities. Lots of dialogue, moving footage, simple scenes, bland narrative, etc. Naturally, Rohmer has his own unique element, in this case religion.
In a nutshell, the film is about the choice of desire under the influence of religion. The male protagonist, Jean-Louis, is a Catholic and has the idea of loving a woman at a time, but the...

[Film Review] My Night at Maud's (1969) 8.1/10
Third chapter of Rohmer's SIX MORAL TALES, but released between the fourth (THE COLLECTOR) and the fifth (CLAIRE'S KNEE), MY NIGHT AT MAUD'S starring a saturnine Jean-Louis Trintignant as an engineer, also named Jean-Louis, after years of working abroad, he is relocated to work for the Michelin company in Clermont-Ferrand where he knows barely no one. Save for its epilogue takes place roughly 5...

How can OMG say that the amount of information is so large, and contradictions are created everywhere, all of which are big topics, and there is no conclusion without breaking it. It's amazing! It is destined that when men and women discuss love and marriage, there is no result, and the way of thinking is completely different. While discussing religion, morality, philosophy, while testing ambiguity, desire and bottom line. The most admirable thing in the whole film is the rhythm. There is no...

7.7 The two lines I remember most clearly: 1.—Do you understand? -I understand. - But I don't understand. 2.—Are you really not sleepy? -completely not. How about you? -not sleepy. - But I am sleepy. As for Pascal, Jansenism, I don't know where the hell is at all, but this movie is fun...

The wife is Maud's ex-husband's blond lover, and when the hidden truth comes to light, it makes her feel more guilty and ashamed. As a Catholic, his wife also lost her virginity and even became a mistress. Her loyalty to her faith became a joke at this time. So Louis lied and told his wife that he had had a one-night stand with Maud, which made his wife feel a lot better, and this state of balance brought back his...

The movie of more than 100 minutes was actually watched for three hours. Some lines had to be stopped and re-read two or three times. Rohmer's dialogue is simply an advanced version of Woody Allen. No, there is no Woody Allen's paranoia and self-righteousness. It's more of a philosophical dialectic, I like it so...

It was the first screening in the lecture hall of the library of the Academy of Fine Arts. Next to the tiring chair sat a boy with a lot of small gestures, which was very disturbing and tangled. I recalled the slightly raised corner of Maud's mouth again and...
Jean-Louis: Mathematics distract from God. A useless, intellectual diversion - worse than other diversions.
Maud: Why worse?
Jean-Louis: Because its completely abstract and thus inhuman.
Maud: You do shock me.
Jean-Louis: So you've said.
Maud: You're the most outrageous person I've met. Religion has always left me cold. I'm neither for nor against it. But people like you prevent me from taking it seriously. All that really concerns you is your respectability. Staying in a woman's room after midnight is dreadful. It would never occur to you to stay because I'm lonely. To establish a slightly less conventional relationship even if we should never meet again. This I find stupid - very stupid and not very Christian.
Jean-Louis: It's nothing to do with religion. I just thought you might be tired.
Maud: Do you still think so?
Maud: What I don't like about you is that you always dodge the issue. You don't face up to things. A shamefaced Christian combined with a shamefaced Don Juan.
