      Road to hell

For me, an old-school romantic who likes "The Merry Widow" and "Mr. Smith to Washington", watching a Dougma movie from start to finish is like biting my scalp and drinking my most unbearable soy juice. It is said that only those who love to drink soy juice are the real Beijingers.
      Unfortunately, I can't be a Beijinger because I can't drink soybean juice.
Unfortunately, I can't get used to Dougma movies, so I am not a true modern art lover.

At best, I'm just joining in the...

      Think carefully

Can be regarded as the sequel to "Dogtown" Dogtown talks about individuals and Mandalay is about groups

Grace found a small town where there were still slaves. She tried to restore people's freedom and reformed in the town. However, the slaves who were freed had no orders from the slave owner. She didn't seem to know what she should do anymore. She had nothing to do and even the production was waiting for others. Production plan, these free people don’t know how to use it. Grace wants...

      DOGMA95-DOGMA05 Confrontation and Intercourse

Lars Von Trier's American experiment proceeded to the second part. It was reasonable to intercept a stage scene between the macro and the micro. It aimed at the most far-reaching and acute racial contradictions in the United States. This was a mixed slave-type and industrial-type confrontation. The stage experiment works that are intermingled with each other are not inferior to Dogtown even without super-big-name support such as nicole kidman. Of course, as far as personal preference is...

      Allegorical film

This is a movie with a strong sense of stage. People who don't like to watch dramas may find it difficult to agree with this form.
The film is obviously allegorical, and the sense of form and the spirit of realism are perfectly blended together. (Realism does not mean that it looks real...), it makes people think of "Animal Farm" at once.
The plot design is very meticulous. The allegorical plot design and unexpected results reflect the director's deep understanding of American...

      Artwork under social specimens

After completing the "Conscience Trilogy", the Danish Trier completely broke away from the realist video system, used the stage as the narrative plane, carried out completely opposite expressionist attempts, and established various American social specimens. This is also the case. The basic tone of its "American Trilogy". And he himself has never been to the United States.
Different from the hypocritical and humble citizen specimens that "Dogtown" focuses on, "Mandalay" selects the object...

The staged performance makes it more like a fable. But the problems described and the cruel small group all tell us that reality is not far away. The film mocks some of our irrational perceptions of American...

    Movie plot

In 1933, Grace and her father left Dogville. Grace's father took his gangsters and spent the whole winter looking for a new foothold, but they didn't find a new foothold. They have been making one last effort to the south, hoping to find a profitable place to settle down. In Alabama, their car accidentally stopped in front of a large iron gate with a heavy chain and iron lock tied to it. There was a dead oak tree by the door, and the...

    Behind the scenes gags

"Manderlay" is the second part of Lars von Trier's "American Trilogy", and the other two are "Dogville" in 2003 and " Washington " in 2009 .
Nicole Mary Kidman, who played Grace in "Dogville", planned to continue to play "Manderlay", but had to give up due to a time conflict.
·The actor who played Dr. Hector in the film was originally John Christopher Reilly , but Reilly suddenly announced his withdrawal during the filming process....

    Evaluation action

Lars von Trier's mockery and criticism of the United States has always been clear and decisive. "Manderlay" pointed the finger at the issue of race and contained more content. Grace represents a cowardly reform attitude. What she is full of is actually cheap and idealized equality thoughts. She underestimates the reality, which directly leads to the lack of operability of her reforms and the lack of implementation of her justice....

    Movie quotes

    • Grace Margaret Mulligan: Dammit Wilhelm, they're not free. That's what matters.

Wilhelm: I'd call that a philosophical argument.

    • Grace Margaret Mulligan: You think the Negroes wanted to leave their homes in Africa, wasn't it us who brought them to America? We have done them a great wrong. It's our abuses which made them what they are.

    • Grace Margaret Mulligan: [confused after a womans cry for help] What are you talking about? Who are they gonna whip?

      Flora: Timothy!

      Grace Margaret Mulligan: Why?

Flora: That's how they do us slaves.

      Grace Margaret Mulligan: Slaves?

Flora: Yes ma'am, surely you have heard of slaves? That's what we is at Manderlay, this godforsaken place.
