      Miscellaneous talk

To be honest, the whole viewing process was very tired and depressing (because I didn’t understand the background behind the film before watching it)

What impressed me the most was the music scenes in the film and the special shooting techniques, especially when the young Brian was shooting in a 360-degree surround in the studio, the shot I really liked.

After watching the movie, I want to learn more about the story behind it, and then I checked a lot of information. Finally,...

      Regain the beach boy

The Beach Boys in the bands in the 1960s have never been my thing, because they are too healthy and the sun is too surfing. Later, psychedelic rock evolved on the West Coast and there was no sympathy, after all, it was too extreme. Until now I saw the biographical film "Love and Mercy" by Brian Wilson, the soul of the Beach Boys, that I have re-acquainted this band and this musical talent.

Too many music biographical movies talk about how a band or singer became popular and then...

      The world of genius

A very high-quality biographical film, with large-length narrative techniques, intertwined with classic old songs, it is inevitable to be moved by the end. I’m not familiar with the real protagonists in the film. How hot "Brian Wilson" and "Beach Boy" were in that era, and the times have changed. As the saying goes, if you don’t live insane, you will always be a genius. Crazy, when they are chasing the ultimate in their own realm, they gain fame and fortune, fall into boundless pressure, and...

Love and mercy is what you need tonight

Seeing at Rialto Cinema on July 10th, more than half of the audience are still grandparents.

I saw it in my heart. Let alone how famous the Beach Boy was and how talented Brian was, I just want to talk about being controlled and suppressed.

Brian has been "controlled" by his father since he was a child, what he should do and what he should not do. His father has a strong desire to control, as if what he thinks is right, it must be right, and what he thinks is wrong, it...

Let a genius be a genius

I just finished reading it, unwritten, and recorded some thoughts, which is very messy. If I read it again later, I have a chance to write it again:

      1. The young actor who played Brian Wilson looked familiar at first glance. I checked the information and found that his name is Paul Dano, appeared in "Little Beauty in the Sunshine". Compared to John Cusack's more restrained performance, watching Paul's performance will give me a sigh of relief. His acting skills in this film are...

I don't know much about foreign music, and I don't know much about the Beach Boys, so I can't stand the biopic of this kind of character. Fortunately, it's just a story of a musical genius playing...

    Behind the scenes gags

Paul Franklin Dano and John Cusack starred in Brian Wilson's youth and middle age respectively, but the two did not communicate at all during the filming. Director Bill Pohlad agrees with this, and he hopes that actors can act according to their personal understanding of the role.
The film also intends to present the "third stage" of Brian Wilson. The actor candidate for the third stage is Philip Seymour Hoffman.
    When Brian Wilson...

    Evaluation action

"Love & Mercy" avoids the more classic forms of dialogue in music biographies, but adopts a way of switching back and forth between two periods in the protagonist's life. The film presents the musician's creative process very realistically, while convincing the audience about the impact of mental illness on a person. The film plays the role of Dr. Randy somewhat viciously. Although Dr. Randy is a quack in reality, the film turns him...

    Movie quotes

    • Brian Past: We can't let them get ahead of us.

      [Referring to The Beatles]

    • Brian Past: Okay, let's go again, please. Let's think of this feel a little harder. Okay? A little stronger. Let's really hit it now, okay? Here we go!

[the cello player plays a repetitive slew of notes]

Brian Past: Okay, one more time, please! *Ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka*!

Mike Love: They know the ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka! They're doing it! Brian, they've been doing it for the past three hours! Oh my God...

Brian Past: Okay, Mike, you can leave if you don't want to be here, thank you, I'm working with the cello players. Okay, let's try it again, please. One more time. Take 32, here we go.

    • Brian Past: [singing] God only knows what I'd be without you.
