Life itself is the most unreliable narrator

Another very beautiful, beautiful and touching film. The second half of the movie was almost full of tears. I don't know why the rating is so low, but I personally like this kind of real and warm film about life. Strong push!

Life will always surprise you. You never know what will happen in the next second, who will meet, what will happen. Tragedy may knock you down. But you get back up again because all the little parts of all those who came before you are inside of you, urging you to...

      love in life

The director's unique use of flashbacks and episodes to intersperse the story is amazing, and the story itself is immersive.

The male and female protagonists in the three chapters all love each other deeply. Of course, Will's practice of leaving his daughter and parents is criticized, but if he did not commit suicide and raised his daughter, would the later story happen? Like Abby's paper says, life is an unpredictable journey, and no one knows what they will do in the next...

Life as the ultimate unreliable narrator (Quotes)

Every narrator by its very definition is unreliable, because when you tell a story, there's always an essential distance between the story itself and the telling of said story, right? So therefore, every story that has ever been told has an unreliable narrator. The only truly reliable narrator would be someone hypothetically telling a story that unfolds before our very eyes which is obviously impossible. So what does that tell us? The only truly reliable narrator...

The naysayer: If you like dramas, would you not like movies?

This is us and life itself, the original screenwriter, just put the TV series on the screen, and then hit the street? puzzled. Tell me what's wrong with the movie, the chicken soup is full of the style of the play itself, the chapters are clearly structured, and there is no sense of film, yes. so what?

People have joys and sorrows, and the moon is cloudy and sunny. All partings will be reunited in the future, please keep the vision in your heart. Because this expectation itself is...

One of the favorite things for elementary school Chinese teachers to do is to read the text aloud by characters, which is used to describe the film as just right, long, boring, and...

The first part of the tragedy is full of impact, and the second half of the tragedy is full of chicken soup. As a fan of This is Us drama, I have been expecting this for a long time and feel a little disappointed, 3.5. You've had many ups and downs in your life, too many. And you will have more. This is life. And this is what it does. Life brings you to your...

What is life itself like? The director has connected several stories with unknown clues, making you sigh the wonderful and colorful life encounters, but, you see, they are all so simple and sincere. Such a person deserves a wonderful...

Thinking of "Affiliated Beauty", which was also criticized for being flawless a few years ago, how ugly it is, in fact, those warm themes and keynotes of family affection are quite festive. It can only be understood that everyone did nothing to Dan, who made a movie after blessing TIU starlight (maybe TIFF can't find criticism), accumulating an avalanche of disappointment. "Life itself is the most unreliable narrator", a family history strung between several small stories, well designed; but...

    Movie quotes

    • Young Dylan: I crave a happy life, grandpa. I have a almost desperate craving for stability and happiness, the way fat people crave chocolate or lost hikers crave rescue. I want to live a big, great, fantastical life, but I am concerned that the tragedy that seems to follow me, the tragedy that birthed me will prevent that from ever happening.

    • Abby: Unreliable Narrator!... Unreliable Narrators are considered a device, right? Don't answer. They are. They are and they don't get a lot of literary analysis because it's a gimmick. It's a trick. I mean Canterbury Tales gets a shoutout because, you know, it's good but typically it's used for popcorn crime novels and thriller movies Agatha Christie, Usual Suspects, so on and so forth. But I'm going to argue that every narrator by its very definition is unreliable because when you tell a story there's always an essential distance between the story itself and the telling of said story, right? So therefore every story that has ever been told has an Unreliable Narrator. The only truly reliable narrator would be someone hypothetically telling a story that unfolds before our very eyes which is obviously very impossible SO what does that tell us? That the only truly reliable narrator is life itself. But life itself is also completely unreliable because it is constantly misdirecting and misleading us and taking us on this journey where it is literally impossible to predict where it is going to go next... Life as the ultimate Unreliable Narrator.

    • Elena Dempsey-González: When critics reviewed Abby Dempsey's favorite album, Bob Dylan's 1997 release, "Time Out of Mind," the song "Make You Feel My Love" was a source of much criticism. Every track on the album brimmed with unrelenting melancholy and sadness. But there, smack in the middle of it all, sat an unbashedly populist hit song, a love song... a song that in years to come would be covered by Garth Brooks, of all people. Critics argued that putting an on-the-nose love song in the middle of an album about despair and tragedy was Dylan's only misstep. Others argued that was his point.
