Letters from Iwo Jima: When You are Strong can There be Peace

I have always disliked the World War II movies made by Japan, and I was a little bit conflicted. When I saw Japan filming the Tokyo Air Raid and Iwo Jima, I wondered in my heart why they only made movies about the US attacking Japan, not Japan's invasion of China, or Japan's sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. The movie only shoots the defense war, not the aggression war. If they film the whole history, it will be regarded as the real face of that war. But I still don't know what kind of mood I...

      "Bland" World War II Movie!

Maybe it's because I've watched too many war movies, maybe it's because the movie depicts the Japanese army in World War II as a "normal" person instead of a devil, which seems a little uncomfortable!

If you don't know the history of World War II, you can't tell which side is the righteous side and which side is the evil side from the movie. Even from the point of view of the US military killing prisoners of war, you will still think that the US military is...

One of the rare good films about World War II, let me think about the following points

I've been very interested in WWII-themed stuff lately. Mainly because I watched "Eichmann in Jerusalem A Report on the Banality of Evil", and then watched more WWII-themed movies one after another.

This film is really reflective, a rare good film.

      1. The justice of war?

      2. Who is the American soldier or the Japanese soldier who was not born to his mother, and who has no parents, wife and children? Who is pure "devil"...

      "Letter from Iwo Jima"

Novel and unusual, the American director shot the battle of Iwo Jima from the perspective of Japanese soldiers, which is not the main theme of the film that reflects the bravery of American soldiers in the past. As a former hostile country, it is very commendable to be able to affirm the excellent side of the opponent's soldiers. Dare to shoot the black spots of American soldiers (do not understand the real situation of history), kill Japanese prisoners. The role of Shimizu has grown and...

      desire to live

      1. Dual perspective comparison. The banner with the father's generation is a set of stories from two perspectives, which is quite interesting and makes people want to compare. In contrast, the banner of the fathers does have a deeper subject matter, a wider range of social issues involved, a stronger satire, and a deeper meaning. However, Iwo Jima's family letter has not lost its sense of reality. Although it lacks many peripheral descriptions, due to the relatively fixed perspective...

The little character played by Ergou feels more real, timid and averse to war but forced to the front line, never forgetting to survive. But Kuribayashi's over-beautification is unreasonable, and although he may have a gentle side as a person, he became a historical figure because he was an aggressor, and no one can change that. Should we over-criticize the shooting and killing of prisoners by American soldiers as a reflection of American...

    Movie plot

In 2006, hundreds of letters were found underground on Iwo Jima. That was the last thing left to the family by the soldiers fighting on this island 61 years ago-the last farewell letter to the family. These unsent letters pin their hopes.
At the end of World War II, the defeat of the Midway Island naval battle announced that the Japanese army began to embark on a path of complete defeat on the Pacific battlefield. When the powerful...

    Story Background

The Battle of Iwo Jima in the Pacific battlefield in February 1945 was a turning point in the Pacific War. After the U.S. forces took Iwo Jima, they established a base on the island closest to the Japanese mainland, causing B-29 bombers to air strikes on the Japanese mainland and later ended with an atomic bomb. War becomes possible. The resistance of the Japanese on Iwo Jima was almost suicidal. The highest commander of the Japanese...

    Adapted from series

The inspiration for this film comes from a book of letters. When Eastwood was preparing for "Flags of Fathers", he had a keen interest in the Japanese commander Kuribayashi Tadao in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Kuribayashi ordered a large number of caves and tunnels to be excavated on the island to ambush military forces. This tactic is simply "heresy." At that time, Japanese troops in defensive battles would often lay out their lines of...

    Evaluation action

The storyline of the film is an out-and-out war film. The scenes of the war in the film are also fiercely filmed on the sulphur site, while ordinary war films always make a conclusion about justice or not, but the director does not mean it. He believes that war is like life, and there is no absolutely righteous side and no absolutely evil side. For both parties involved in the war, the dead souls are worthy of admiration. ( Netease...

    • General Tadamichi Kuribayashi: A day will come when they will weep and pray for your souls.
