      A Man-made Utopia

After the Third World War, Paris was razed to the ground. The ruined walls that came rushing towards it left no one. People are afraid of the radiation that lingers in the air, and snakes and rats generally hide underground. People are confined to space, and the only hope for survival is time.

Human trials have become a prophecy in World War II. The three wars are ingenious, throwing prisoners of war into time-travel experiments; hoping to survive the beleaguered present in the past...

      Obsessed with Time

      Film class homework, record it

The camera moved from afar in the prologue and rested upon a still picture of an airport. Then spoke the narrator. The screen turned dark as if a curtain falls on the stage, marking the beginning of a play. "This is the story of a man...a few years before the outbreak of World War III." Only then did the audience realize the futuristic theme in grain, black-and-white images.

The story was told by all still...

Memory may be the difference with 12 monkeys.

This experimental film was the inspiration for 12 Monkeys. However, in a more commercial sci-fi film like 12 Monkeys, time travel and so on are real. Bruce Power was stuffed naked into that blue-lighted sci-fi barrel and traveled back in time to 1996. But in this movie. It's hard for me to imagine lying on a battered bamboo mat hammock, putting on an eye patch with two threads attached, getting a needle, and traveling through time.
Perhaps, men do not travel through time and space at all....

      Memories are pictures

Still images are a wonderful technique. Even if people can travel freely in time, time is still dynamic and cannot be retained. Only memories remain. All memory of the past or the present or the future is static; for the present moment that you can feel is fluid and fleeting. Maybe you can keep those fluctuating feelings firmly in mind, such as a pleasant afternoon with her visiting a museum, such as walking slowly with her on a crowded street; but really use your mind to build those...

      "Dike" Review

      film form

The film is formally a "still-frame film", or the whole film uses a "photomontage" technique. Each picture also has a different number of frames, and the rhythm matches the speed of the plot. Only at 19 minutes there is a continuous image of the heroine blinking for about 5 seconds (but it can also be understood as a picture montage with a fast editing speed). The method of picture montage coincides with the discussion on memory that the narrator narrated at the beginning....

The black and white still-frame images have a quiet and elegant texture, as gentle and sad as turning over the pages of the years. Time no longer flows in it but ticks so slowly and sticky. Like poetry, time is inescapable, just as love is...

Video novels, film texts, stories connected by black and white PPTs, pioneering experiments in 1962. The logically complete narrative simply monologues in place without redundancy. Thirty years later, the remake (after comparison, it cannot be recognized that it is just a heritage as a source of creativity) does not deviate from the scope established here in terms of the basic...

It's not simply looking at pictures and talking, but it's like a PPT but has no mechanical sense. I still use the film techniques of zoom in, fade in/out, but the power of the text alone is already shocking, as broad and gentle as Borges' "The Garden of Forking Paths". Frames of black and white pictures seem to be disturbed fragments of memory, but which time and space do they belong to? Later sci-fi films are unparalleled at the...

Like some carefully shot short films composed of textured black and white photos, the richness and clarification of the voice-over, the solemn and sacred soundtrack, struck by the only continuous dynamic wink, avant-garde, philosophical and imaginative, romantic nihilism, memory is fact Mixed with the evidence of the fantasy of the past, in the process of returning to nothing, human beings are still trying to pursue and prove that they will encounter death in the end, and it is difficult to...

One of the interesting things about watching smart people make movies is that their films of different genres and techniques have a "final proposition", and he opens countless trails that eventually lead you to a real feast. In this film, at the beginning, Chris Mark created a suspension between the opposites of time and space, past and future, and dream reality, and the audience could not break him. Just follow him and feel it. But at a crucial moment, he opened the fence a little - the girl...

    Movie plot

The film uses completely still images to tell a post-apocalyptic story. By then nuclear war had broken out and humanity was left with only a handful of fruits left, and a man became an experiment in time travel because he could recall something from his childhood. After a period of training and adaptation, he was sent back to the past, the eve of the nuclear war. He meets a woman ashore at The Jetty and falls in love with her. Towards...

    Movie quotes

    • Narrator: [English version] Above ground, in Paris, as in most of the world, everything was rotten with radioactivity. The victors stood guard over a kingdom of rats.

    • Narrator: [English version] At first, nothing else but stripping out of the present. They start again. The man doesn't die, nor does he get mad. He suffers. They continue.

    • Narrator: [English version] The directors of the experiment tighten their control. They send him back. Time rolls back again. The moment happens once more. This time she is near him. He says something. She doesn't mind, she answers. They have no memories, no plans. Time builds itself painlessly around them. As landmarks they have the very taste of this moment they live and a scribbling on the walls.
