This is a black-and-white film, not only because of the black-and-white film used, but the film is so simple and distinct. A good person is a good person, and a bad person is a bad person. Usually, I don't like distinct characters, because such characters can easily become thin and fake. But the characters in this movie are very real. Although good people are brave, they don't take fearless adventures. Although they believe in justice, they also understand the helplessness in this world. All...

The veteran Frank went to a small island called Chi Largo to look for the relatives of his deceased comrades, but he was taken hostage by the black boss Jonny Rock along with the relatives of his comrades. The whole film is more like a stage play performed in a hotel, with various characters appearing under the director's lens. Among them, Edward Robinson, who plays the black boss, is the most brilliant, and he interprets a triad boss who is incompatible with the post-war American society....

Once, a reporter asked Bogart about how you are with that woman. Bogart said that her name is Lauren Bacall, not that woman.
They both acted in several plays and they were all outstanding. Bogar started out as a black film, with the image of a tough guy, and Lauren Bacall's face has a maturity beyond age, and she looks hard and brave.
I will give 5 stars to all Bogart's plays, because this is not common. Although Clark Gable and Carol Lombard have also acted together, they...

Oh my goodness, John Huston is definitely not for me. However, the concept of tension within a house during storm is very fascinating, but could be a lot more interesting. The gangster's hedious look has triggered negative biological response, which degrades the...

I didn't expect it to be a semi-indoor drama. Houston uses dialogue and close-ups to continuously cut in and accumulate emotions to create a good atmosphere. It's a pity that the indoor dialogue in the middle is too boring. Edward Robinson's villain gang is excellent. Bogart's three-shot burst at the end turned this character back Bacall is bleak and dull title translation can't...

An indoor scene in a storm, discussing the cowardice/braveness of men. The character creation has a strong sense of the stage, and what happens needs to be explained by the character. Bogart's role is not much, and the female supporting role is...

The star of the film is neither the Bogart couple who never acted as a couple, nor the wheelchair-bound Barrymore, but the little Edward G....

Bacall feels that the whole film is soy sauce, Edward Robinson plays well, Bogart swallows...
Gaye Dawn: No, Mr. Temple, it wasn't you. It wasn't the law or anybody. It was only Johnny Rocco. Nobody in the whole world is safe as long as he's alive.
Frank McCloud: "But we aren't making all this sacrifice of human effort and lives to return to the kind of a world we had after the last world war. We're fighting to cleanse the world of ancient evils, ancient ills." - Quoted from FDR's 1942 State of the Union

Sheriff Ben Wade: [to the driver after pulling over a bus] Hello, Eddie.
Bus Driver: Hi, Ben. What gives?
Sheriff Ben Wade: We're lookin' for a couple Indians broke out of jail. Young bucks in fancy shirts. If you see anything of 'em, telephone my office at Palm Grove.
Bus Driver: Okay.
[after the sheriff and deputy leave, he turns to Frank McCloud in the first passenger seat]
Bus Driver: Those Indians they're lookin' for must be from around here. They always head for home.
Frank McCloud: Home being Key Largo.
