      hot summer night

1967 film, 5 Oscars. As a mystery, I really don't think it's strong enough. There is a snack shop owner at the beginning of the film, using close-up or close-up shots, and then he doesn't appear again - what does it mean? It means he is the murderer! I saw it in ten minutes. It's strange that many film critics actually said that the ending was too unexpected or something.

But aside from that aspect, it's a really good movie. Recently, I often lament how people have made so many...

"Hot Summer Night" Guilty White Tender Busty Woman

Before commenting on this film, we must first popularize black Americans at that time, who was at the peak of the black affirmative movement, and various national movements came and went one after another. And because of this affirmative movement, the relationship between people of color and white people in the United States has become increasingly tense, and even caused a lot of riots. These social problems caused some turbulence in American society at that time.

      Black and white

It reflects the serious enlightened black phenomenon in some areas. The homicides are linked to each other, and the truth emerges under the layers of the black detective. During this period, black people endured a lot of cynicism because they were black. It is worth paying attention to the change in the attitude of the white sheriff. Although slightly abrupt, it reflects the magnanimity and meticulous handling ability of blacks. I am deeply impressed by the ugly police station, and the people...

      Smile

On this hot night, a homicide occurred in a small town in southern Mississippi. The white Colbert who built a factory in this small town to provide people with job opportunities was killed, so the police began an investigation. Seeing a black Vicker on the side of the road, he arrested him and determined that he was the murderer. People in the police station had a bad attitude towards Vickel, and his status as a policeman couldn't change them, and all the white people in the town had an...

Racial issues under the homicide package

In the Heat of the Night (1967)—The 40th Oscar Best Film

At first, I thought the homicide in the film was quite interesting. After seeing more and more problems, many clues were unclear. . Why did Tibbs suddenly suspect that the driver did not follow the usual route? Why does Tibbs think of criminal motives from abortion? Why did Tibbs tell the culprit to the black woman who had an illegal abortion before he knew the truth? The investigation process feels very confusing. But...

In the end, it's still about racism. . . Solving a murder case is a camouflage. Poiiter is really a hero among black actors. I can finally understand why he has such a high status in the history of movies. ....

    Movie quotes

    • [upon the suggestion that he may have murdered Colbert, Endicott slaps Tibbs across the face. Tibbs promptly slaps him back. Endicott is positively shocked]

      Eric Endicott: Gillespie?

      Chief Gillespie: Yeah.

      Eric Endicott: You saw it.

      Chief Gillespie: I saw it.

Eric Endicott: Well, what are you gonna do about it?

      Chief Gillespie: I don't know.

      Eric Endicott: I'll remember that.

      [to Tibbs]

Eric Endicott: There was a time when I could've had you shot.

    • [after Chief Gillespie convinced Virgil Tibbs to stay in town and finish the investigation, they both go to a mechanic's place to get Tibbs a car]

      Chief Gillespie: Jess.

[Jess, a black mechanic, appears from under the car he is working on]

Chief Gillespie: Jess, this is, uh... This is Virgil. He's working for me. Give him something that runs. You fix him up, you hear.

Jess: What I fix runs. Who pays.

      Chief Gillespie: Police.

      [to Tibbs:]

Chief Gillespie: Well, you know where to find me.

[after Gillespie has left, Jess looks Virgil and his suit up and down]

Jess: What you doin' here, man.

      Virgil Tibbs: Policeman.

Jess: You're a policeman here in Sparta.

Virgil Tibbs: They've got a murder they don't know what to do with. They need a whipping boy.

      Jess: You got a roof.

Virgil Tibbs: No. I'll find a Motel.

[Jess chuckles and picks up Virgil's suitcase]

      Jess: Viola... We got company.

    • Gillespie: You look at bodies all the time in Philadelphia. Why can't you look at this one?

Tibbs: Why can't you look at it for yourself?

Gillespie: Because I'm not an expert. OFFICER!
