The New Zealand scenery and Maori culture were trumpeted as selling points, and the film was turned into a set of postcards with beauty & whale themes. However, except for a few prayers to ancestors, almost the entire film is in English. Since we want to talk about cultural heritage, at least let the old-fashioned grandpa speak Maori at home, right? Emotions are untenable, and the masked characters and outdated, featureless anti-patriarchy stories seem to be drawn from a template. The same contradictions and inheritance of gender and culture are far inferior to Wu Tianming's "Changing Faces".
