  • Rodney Stephen Steiger (Rod Steiger, April 14, 1925-July 9, 2002) was born in West Hampton, New York. American film and television actors. [1] 
    One of the representative figures of American "methodist" acting. He joined the Navy at the age of 16, and served on a destroyer in the Pacific during World War II. Later, he worked as a civilian in the Navy Department and was admitted to the theater studio of the New School of Social Studies. Entered the film industry in 1951 and played a small role in "Tilissa". He starred in " a gentleman's good mate " (TV version) in 1953 and received attention for the first time. In 1954, " On The Waterfront " earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and his showdown with Marlon Brando's brothers in a taxi Become a classic in film history. Starring in " The Pawnbroker " in 1965, he was nominated for an Oscar for best actor and won the Berlin actor crown. Two years later, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor with " In the Heat of the Night ". In the late 1970s, after a heart bypass operation, symptoms of severe clinical depression appeared. For 8 years, he could only rely on drugs to maintain mental stability. During this period, a large number of B-level production films were taken, resulting in a serious decline in reputation. It was not until the 1990s that the career recovered again, but it never reached the height it once was [2]  . In 1997, he left his own commemorative star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. [1] 
    Steiger died in a Los Angeles hospital from pneumonia and gallbladder tumors at the age of 77. [1] 

    Performing Experience

    Rodney Stephen Steiger won his first major role in the film "First Love" (Teresa) in 1951, and then starred in the TV version " a gentleman's good mate " (Marty)  for the first time. In 1954, he starred in "On The Waterfront" ( After On the Waterfront), Rod was nominated for an Oscar and received attention from the industry, and later played different types of roles. From the black hand manipulating the boxing ring in "The Harder They Fall" to the infamous gangster Al Capone in American history in "Al Capone" (Al Capone) .   Starred in the 1962 World War II epic blockbuster " The Longest Day " (The Longest Day), and won an Oscar nomination for "The Pawnbroker" (The Pawnbroker). In the next few years, his career reached its peak, and he appeared in the black comedy "The Loved One"   and the classic film "Doctor Zhivago" (Doctor Zhivago)   .   In 1967, " In the Heat of the Night " (In the Heat of the Night) played Bill Gillespie, who is considered to be the greatest role he has portrayed and won the Oscar for Best Actor. He then starred in "The Illustrated Man" (The Illustrated Man) and "No Way to Treata Lady" (No Way to Treata Lady) which caused quite a stir and controversy. After these two films, Rod gradually withdrew from the blockbusters, became more critical in choosing roles, and rejected the " PATTON"(Patton) and " The Godfather " (The Godfather) invitation. Films starred in the 70s and 80s include "Happy Birthday Wanda June", "Lolly-Madonna XXX", "Portraitofa Hitman", "The Amityville Horror" (The Amityville Horror), "The Chosen" and "January Man) and so on. After 8 years of prolonged depression, he returned to the film industry in the late 1990s and played several impressive roles. Among them are the doctor in "It Doesn't Respect It, My Baby" (Shiloh), and the crazy general in " Mars Attacks! " (Mars Attacks!).
