  • Richard Farnsworth: A veteran American filmmaker who was born during the Great Depression in the United States. His father was an engineer and his mother was a housewife. His father died at the age of seven. He lives in Los Angeles with his aunt, mother and two sisters.
    Farnsworth has been nominated for Oscars twice. The first time was in 1979 for "Comes A Horse" as a shortlist for Best Supporting Actor, and the second time was his last work-" The Straight Story (The Straight Story)", at that time he also became the oldest Oscar candidate for best actor in Hollywood movie history.

    Personal Life

    Farnsworth and his wife Margaret "Maggie" Hill have been married for 38 years and have two sons: Diamond and Missy. Margaret died in 1985.
    In his later years, Farn met and got engaged to the young flight attendant Julie Van Hualin. Farn had a 60-acre (approximately 240,000 square meters) ranch in the Lincoln community of New Mexico. After his wife died, he liked to be busy on this ranch. After meeting Fan Hualin, the two often rode horses on the ranch.
    In the early 1990s, Farn was suspected of being diagnosed with cancer. In 1999, he was officially diagnosed as terminal bone cancer. According to Fan Hualin's recollection, Farnsworth always endured the pain when filming " The Straight Story ", "He was very weak at the time, but on the surface he survived because he didn't want the world to know that he was a patient." Fan Hualin said sadly, "He can't continue the fight. Cancer has defeated him." On October 6, 2000, the New Mexico State Police issued a public statement in the evening that Richard Farnsworth passed away at home in the afternoon of the same day. No other details were disclosed. However, according to reports, Farnsworth’s fiancée Julie Van Wahlin was also in the house at the time. In an interview with the media, she said: “I was in another room and suddenly heard a gunshot.” ​​She called immediately.
