      History you don't know

Martin's works often show neglected content from the mainstream historical perspective, which I like very much, because this part that is often neglected allows us to see the truth, it is more comprehensive and more relevant. This is true of "New York Gangs," and so is "Closed Island."

More than just a gangster movie

I don't like bloody gangster movies, otherwise I would give this movie a perfect score of five. After reading it, I finally understood why Martin Scorsese would continue to make "The Irishman", but it is a pity that both films missed the Oscars. It was too unreasonable... just read some books about...

The title is so misleading, it's not really about gangsters. This is a battle for democracy and equality, proving once again that politics and the underworld are the same thing, and that our great cities were born out of blood and suffering. The final scene was so well edited. Martin Scorsese really is a film sociologist.

    Gangs of New York quotes

    • Boss Tweed: You killed an elected official?

      Bill: Who elected him?

Boss Tweed: You don't know what you've done to yourself.

Bill: [taps his glass eye with a knife] I know your works. You are neither cold nor hot. So because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth. You can build your filthy world without me. I took the father. Now I'll take the son. You tell young Vallon I'm gonna paint Paradise Square with his blood. Two coats. I'll festoon my bedchamber with his guts. As for you, Mr. Tammany-fucking-Hall, you come down to the Points again, and you'll be dispatched by my own hand. Get back to your celebration and let me eat in peace.

    • Bill: I took the father, now I'll take the son.
