This is actually a very emotional story, a desert cowboy, and then a grower who challenges the patriarchy. The big scene control is beautiful, the big herd of cattle looks very good in the panorama, as the train driver said, they even smell good. John Ford and Clift were evenly matched, one handsome and the other old, and it really was a good time. Four and a half stars.
