Early Experience
Mischa Ounskowsky, an American film actor, was born in Russia , whose original name was Misha Onskowsky. Misha's father was an officer in the Russian Navy. When he was a baby, his father died in the Russian-Japanese War , which made him and his mother lose their financial resources. After the Red October in 1917 , Misha lost contact with his family. He became a "street Arab" and lived with homeless young people, struggling to survive in terrible poverty. Soon after, he and his mother reunited. His mother wanted to make a living by relying on her past nursing experience. But it was still difficult to make ends meet, so she took Misha and fled to The Republic of Turkey .
In Constantinople in The Republic of Turkey , Misha's mother contracted typhoid fever while caring for a patient and eventually died. Misha buried her with tears with her own hands. Then Misha started a wandering life again. It was not until 1920 that his grandfather, the violinist Leopold Orr, discovered his whereabouts and brought him to the United States. Initially, Misha studied at the School of Ethics, Morality and Culture in New York, then transferred to drama and performed in Broadway.
Performing Experience
In 1928, director Frank Tuttle asked him to play a role in the film "Old Accidents". Since then, he has played small roles for several years, and he has often played characters instead. 1936 was a turning point in his acting career. He played a major role in the film "A Girlfriend's Spring" directed by Gregory Lacava. Because of his outstanding acting skills, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor that year. Later, he began to become one of Hollywood's famous supporting actor. His long face with a wry smile, goldfish eyes, and a sense of humor make him good at playing all kinds of characters in comedies. Misha was known as the "crazy Russian man" on the American screen before and after World War II and was deeply loved by the audience. He acted in about sixty films in the United States, then settled in Europe, and also performed a large number of films in Europe.
