    Mary J. Blige was born in the Bronx in northern New York, and lived in the port city of Savannah, Georgia before the age of 5. When he was 5 years old, he moved with his mother and sister to live in Yonkers, New York. As the local area is one of the black communities, black graffiti culture and rap music are popular. Mary J. Blige loves music under the influence of black culture, and acts as the lead singer in the church choir for 7-year-old children. In 1987, when he dropped out of high school to sing songs at a karaoke in White Plains, New York, he was noticed by Andre Harrell, the president of Uptown Records, and later became a contracted singer. After joining the company, Mary J. Blige began to take charge of some harmony work. In 1992, with the help of the music producer Bragging Dad, Mary J. Blige got the opportunity to release a music album   .

On December 4, he won the "Best R&B/Rapper Award" at the Billboard Music Awards of the United States   . On February 11, 2007, he acted as a guest performer at the 49th Grammy Awards and performed with Luda Kris   . On December 18, the music album " Growing Pains " was released. In the first week of its release, it won the second place on the Billboard 200 album chart with 629,000 copies sold. On November 8, acted as a guest performer at the National Music Awards   .
