, was born in the Bronx, New York on November 4, 1919, an American actor. Representative works include " On The Waterfront ", " A Thousand Clowns ", "When the water flows, you know I can't hear your voice", "Twelve Angry Men", " Murder on the Orient Express "

On February 13, 1996, Balsam died of a stroke in Rome, Italy

at the age of 76 and was buried in the Cedar Park Cemetery in Emerson, New Jersey.
Early Experience
Martin Balsam was born in a Russian Jewish family
. His parents were engaged in the production of women's sportswear. After entering DeWitt Clinton High School, Ballsam joined the drama club, and then studied in the theater training class of the New School in New York. In World War II , Ballsam served in the US Air Force.
Performing Experience
In 1954, he first appeared on the screen and after participating in the film "On The Waterfront", he became a film character actor .
In 1965, his film "A Thousand Clowns" won the 38th Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also won a Tony Award for the stage play "When the Water Flows You Know I Can't Hear Your Voice".
Personal Life
In 1952, Balsam and his first wife, actress, Pearl Somner (Pearl Somner) married, and divorced two years later. His second wife was actress Joyce Van Patten (Joyce Van Patten), this marriage lasted for three years, and had a daughter. He and his third wife Irene Miller were married in 1963 and divorced in 1987.
