Too much chance and far-fetched is not good suspense
1. There are 10,000 ways Beth killed her mother better than the one she used in the movie. Apparently she had plenty of time to prepare, but she chose the worst possible way.
2. It's hard to imagine Beth killing her mother for a word from the protagonist, she doesn't look like a mentally immature...
