    Personal Life

Jim Carter met with Ameda Staunton at the rehearsal of Richard Al’s partner and doll in the National Theater in January 1982 . Carter was 34 years old and Staunton was 26 years old. Staunton thought he was too old. According to Staunton, "We worked together for a year. This is not impulsive passion, but slow-heating love." Jim Carter and Imeda Staunton married in 1983 and had a daughter. The name is Bessie. Bessie was born when Staunton was 37 years old (1993). Later, Bessie joined the National Youth Theater in 2010. Staunton commented on Carter's acting skills like this: "He has never been the kind of actor who aspires to play Hamlet. Maybe it's because he started in circus performances. He always goes his own way."
Subsequently, Staunton proudly claimed that after 21 years of marriage, she and Carter had only been separated for three weeks.   They also have a dog named Molly.
In addition, Carter is the chairman of the Hampstead Cricket Club. The club’s venue is near his home. On September 18, 2011, he organized the Hampstead Cricket Club (HCC) Cricket Masters Tournament. This is HCC's third charitable Cricket Masters this year.
He is also a great cyclist and has participated in the competition for 55 consecutive years, mostly for charity purposes. On September 30, 2011, Carter and 25 other players went to Ghana to participate in a 10-day trip that included a 6-day ride. The purpose was to raise funds to provide clean water for a poor town named Tafo. He also has a website for recruiting sponsors and donations for this event. This is his tenth charity ride. The first nine are Jordan, Costa Rica, Laos, Vietnam, India, Namibia, Intellect, Argentina and London-Paris twice. The funds raised are donated to the National Association of Deaf-Mute Children. He originally planned to raise £2750, but eventually reached £8670.
