Comedy movies with a lovely atmosphere

I think "Lady Eve" is a very cute movie. The most difficult part of neuro comedy is to grasp a certain degree. It must have a comic effect and not be vulgar. Many sexually suggestive shots make people think about it. I am very fond of it. It is hard to imagine that the American film masters in the...

[Film Review] The Lady Eve (1941) 7.9/10

THE LADY EVE is Barbara Stanwyck's most remembered and beloved romantic comedy (the same year she also tears into Howard Hawks' BALL OF FIRE with gusto), as an actress with oceanic versatility (from melodrama, film-noir, to horse opera and popular fluff ), she holds sway almost every time on the...

A great neuro-comedy, the plot is smooth and the dialogue is witty, especially Babara Stanwyck shines in it, and the scene where she plays with Henry Fonda's hair is a classic!

Sturges' neuro-comedy is not good at language, its strength is that it can always make classic scenes that are unforgettable and memorable. This is true for Stanwick's arms around Fonda and later on the train. Similar Bridges abound, absolutely laughable, and stand up to repeated scrutiny

    The Lady Eve quotes

    • Charles: Snakes are my life, in a way.

      Jean: What a life!

    • Jean: What were you doing up the Amazon?

Charles: Looking for snakes. I'm an ophiologist.

Jean: I thought you were in the beer business.

      Charles: Beer? Ale!

      Jean: What's the difference?

      Charles: Between beer and ale?

      Jean: Yes.

Charles: My father'd burst a blood vessel if he heard you say that. There's a big difference. Ale's sort of fermented on the top or something, and beer's fermented on the bottom, or maybe it's the other way around. There's no similarity at all. You see, the trouble with being descended from a brewer, no matter how long ago he brewed it, or whatever you call it, you're supposed to know all about something you don't give a hoot about.
