  • James Garner (James Garner, April 7, 1928-July 19, 2014), was born in Norman, Oklahoma , Oklahoma , formerly known as James Scott Baumgarner. The birth mother died in childhood and was often abused by her stepmother.
    At the age of 14, he ran away from home and later worked as a handyman on a merchant ship. Came to Hollywood in 1947, because of his tall and sturdy figure, he was chosen as a swim trunks advertising model. Participated in the Korean War in 1950 and won the Purple Heart Medal. After retiring, he worked as a doorman and other handymen. In 1954, he boarded the Broadway stage under the recommendation of a friend, and soon participated in television and movie performances. In 1957, he starred in the TV series "The Wanderer" and was awarded the Most Promising Newcomer Award by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association . In 1959, he was selected as one of the ten future stars. Participated in " The Rockford Files " in 1974 .
