    Performing Experience

    He had worked in various professions before entering the film industry in 1909. He played in Griffith's movies very early, and in 1917 has become an action star in the Westerns filmed by John Ford and other directors. He has worked with Ford for decades, shooting 26 films, often playing a character named Cheyenne Harry. Occasionally, he also collaborates with Ford to create screenplays, produces and directs. In 1929, he filmed the adventure film "The Wonders of Humans and Animals" for MGM. Under the leadership of director Van Dake, he went to Africa for seven months and worked hard for seven months. The protagonist he played was impressive. After that, he started the second stage of his acting career, becoming an outstanding character actor. In 1939, he was nominated for the 12th Oscar for Best Supporting Actor with "Long Live Democracy".
