Gladys Knight started forming a band called the Pips with her siblings when she was 8 years old. The band made an opening performance for the legend of R&B in the 1950s, then signed to Motown Records, and leaped into the field of popular music. As Gladys Knight and the Pips, they recorded their iconic song "Midnight Train to Georgia". In 1989, Knight left the Pips band and continued to perform and record records as a solo singer. Today, she is called the "Empress of Soul". [3]
