  • Abdel Kechiche (Abdellatif Kechiche) , born on December 7, 1960 in Tunis, Tunisia, is a French film director, screenwriter, and producer.
    In 2000, directed his first film " Blame It on Voltaire ", and won the 57th Venice International Film Festival "Luigi de Laurentiis" award for this film [1]  . In 2003, he wrote and directed the feature film " Esquive, L' " and won The thirtieth French film Kaiser Award for Best Director [2]  and Award for Best Screenplay [3]  . In 2007, he wrote and directed the feature film " Graine et le mulet, La ", which won the Jury Prize of the 64th Venice International Film Festival [4]  . In 2008, he served as the chairman of the jury of the 65th Venice International Film Festival "Emerging Director Award" [5]  .
    In 2010, he wrote and directed the feature film " Vénus noire ", which was shortlisted in the main competition unit of the 67th Venice International Film Festival [6]  . In 2013, he directed the feature film " Le bleu est une couleur chaude ", which won the 66th Cannes International Film Festival Palme d’Or [7]  and Fabian Award [8]  . In 2017, directed the feature film " Les Dés sont jetés ", which was shortlisted in the main competition unit of the 74th Venice International Film Festival [9]  .

    Early Experience

    Abdel Kechiche immigrated from Tunisia to Nice, France with his parents when he was six years old. He was passionate about drama since he was a child and performed many stage plays when he was studying in drama school. His earliest identity in the film industry was an actor. Later, when he was getting better in his career as an actor, he decided to give up his glamour and go behind the scenes. At first, it was not smooth when he joined the screenwriter. He wrote several scripts in a row and no one cared about it.  .

    In 2000, Abdel Kechiche directed his first film " Blame It on Voltaire "   , for which he won the 57th Venice International Film Festival "Luigi de Laurentiis" Award (Emerging Director Award)  .
    In 2003, directed the feature film " Esquive, L' " co-starring Sara Forestier and Sabrina Ouazani . With this film, he won the Best Director Award and Best Screenplay Award of The thirtieth French film Kaiser ; in 2005, he cooperated with Robin Wright and Egypt. The feature film " Sorry, Haters " co-starred by Lodi Boucher was released, in which he played an Arab taxi driver.   
    In 2007, he directed the feature film " Graine et le mulet, La " starring Hafsia Herzi and Habib Boufares . It tells the story of the 60-year-old Port of Sete docker  Simon who was fired by the shipyard owner and left the restaurant alone   . He won the Jury Prize of the 64th Venice International Film Festival  and the 21st European Film Awards Fabici Award   . With the film, he won the Best Director   and Best Original Screenplay Award at the 33rd French Film Caesar Awards   . Later, the film was selected as the sixth place in the "Top Ten Films of the New Millennium" by the French "Cinema Manual"   ; in 2008, he served as the chairman of the jury for the 65th Venice International Film Festival "Emerging Director Award"   .
    2010, directed based on the novel "Hottentot Venus" and the feature film adaptation of the true history " Vénus Noire " ,   by the Jonathan Pienaar , Olivier Gourmet , Jean-Christophe Bouvet co-star   , tells the story of the early 19th century South African woman Sa The story of Terje Batman's European life   , the film was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 67th Venice International Film Festival  .
    2013, directed by French writer Julie Marlowe comic "Blue is a warm color," the feature film adaptation of " Le bleu est une Couleur chaude " ,   the film won the 66th Cannes International Film Festival Palme d'Or   , cost ratio West Award   , for which he was nominated for the Best Director Award in The 26th European Film Awards  . After that, the film is United States, "New York Times" named "Top Ten Movie"   , is "visual and auditory" (British film magazine) as "Top Ten film"   , is "Film Handbook" (French magazine) named "Top Ten Films of the Year"   .
    In 2017, directed the feature film " Les Dés sont jetés " co-starred by Salim Kechiouche and Hafsia Herzi , which was shortlisted in the main competition unit of the 74th Venice International Film Festival .

    Abdel Kechiche is a unique contemporary French film director. He has been paying close attention to French social issues. The bold use of close-up shots in the documentary style has become his film label. The style is unique and cannot be copied.  . He is able to integrate drama and film together and combine the strengths of the two, thus forming his unpretentious, clean and pure documentary style. He pioneered the close-up shots and rapid picture conversion into his own documentary-style movies. These characteristics have become his unique film icons.
